Where does one begin to rave about an awesome culinary experience. Ruth's Rochester is knocking it out of the park.
They have only been open for a month, and my first venture here was everything a well established premier steakhouse should be. Cudos to everyone on the team, especially Sydney, our enthusiastic table server. She and everyone we encountered provided an absolutely wonderful experience in every way.
Ruth's brand sells itself to old devotees of the original Louisiana locations, especially Baton Rouge. Almost thirty years ago, Ruth's Baton Rouge was my second home. Tonight, Ruth's Rochester brought back every wonderful memory and more in their food, service, and ambiance.
The wine list is amazing. A price point for everyone, and a wine for every palate. Seriously, an award worthy list. Pay attention Wine Spectator.
My beef filet was perfection. Serious perfection. The seafood tower was memorable. And the au gratin absolutely heavenly. Seriously traditional Ruth's offerings done right. The au gratin brought me to tears with its awesomeness. Another small, but big, thing: the seafood shell cracking tool and small forks were of the finest quality and worked perfectly. No wannabes here.
We went for bread pudding for dessert. Again, well worthy of old New Orleans. One grouse, we needed to ask for a little more whiskey sauce, which was promptly provided.
The after dinner coffee was rich and robust. A perfect ending.
Ruth's Rochester fills a long standing vacancy in the Rochester culinary scene. You can't beat Victoria's for Italian everything, and you can't beat Ruth's for traditional American steakhouse. And they are next door to each other. Lovin' both in Rochester.

Read moreEmployee named Sal was horrible.
We made a 5 person reservation for my friend's birthday. Hostess and the majority of the servers were amazing and so kind. HOWEVER, a male server named Sal, from the moment we walked in, gave us such a disgusting look. We were seated, and he was assigned to our table. He didn't greet us, spoke to us like we were scum, and as if we didn't belong. When ordering our drinks, he was rude, interrupted us, and asked questions that were far from necessary. When one of my friends wanted to ask a question, he held his hand in her face, side-eyed her and said "Wait". When my other friend ordered 2 lobster mac and cheese's for the table, he said "Two for you?" in a condescending tone, which was extremely rude and insulting. He also mentioned alcoholic beverages, despite us wearing hijabs.
When we ordered our food, he came back and told us there was nothing of what we ordered. He brought the menus back to order again, but at this point, we had been treated so badly that we just told him we were uninterested in eating at this establishment. Suddenly, he was so glad that we were leaving, and smiled for the first time since we arrived.
We spoke to the hostess and explained our concerns, she was so kind and apologetic. She brought a manager to us, and we explained the event's that had transpired. He told us that he would have a sit down with the employee, and do corrective action. Nobody deserves to be treated horribly no matter where they are, or whether they "look" like they belong. I hope the manager's reconsider this employee's employment, because it is staining...
Read moreI have been to this location multiple times for work dinners and always had a nice experience. Sadly, on 3/15/25, my husband and I went for dinner to celebrate my birthday and did not have a great experience. We each ordered a steak (I had the 11 oz. filet MR and my husband had the strip rare plus). We alsohad brussel sprouts. We started with a caesar salad for me and french onion soup for my husband. The soup was only mildly warm and the salad had some brown lettuce so nothing special. The brussel sprouts were very good but both our steaks were overcooked. Our server didnât ask how our meals so we couldnât update him. The biggest issue of the evening was the server on 3 different times to our table (before we received our steaks) said he had a birthday present for me. My husband and I ordered dessert and still the server said he had a birthday gift but didnât share what it was. So when our desserts arrived, we had a bread pudding for me, a crème brulee for my husband and then a mini cheesecake with happy birthday in chocolate. We thanked the server and ate the cheesecake and took the bread pudding home. We then get our bill and the server charged us $5 for the âbirthday giftâ dessert. Iâve never been charged for a birthday gift. And had the server been upfront with this information, I would have declined the cheesecake because it wasnât very good. I then took the survey I received asking to be contacted and no one has ever contacted me. Overall very disappointing experience when spending $380...
