Cute place but that’s the only good thing about it. One of the most unbearably awkward breakfasts of my life. Walked in and was completely ignored for about 20 minutes. My husband and I tried to flag down anyone who works there because it’s such a small place. It wasn’t busy so we were just ignored which was incredibly confusing. As we were about to leave a woman finally asked us if it was just the two of us and we got seated. The waitress was a little snotty when I asked a question about the menu and that further made the meal awkward. We ordered and the food came within a reasonable timeframe but the food was a disappointment. The biscuits and gravy were completely flavorless. Cooked well and the portions sizes are huge for the price (especially the pancakes) but for how it tasted I wouldn’t recommend it. I now have leftovers for days and I don’t have any desire to eat it. The coffee was terrible as well unless you like burnt watery coffee. The pancakes we got were larger than my head but burnt on the bottom (I imagine due to the cook time needed) and tasted like a horrible mix of sweet and savory. The cooks must have not scraped the cooktop before putting the batter down. A mistake I have made at home. Very frustrating that such a big meal was so disappointing. Another thing that felt like it furthered the awkwardness of the meal was when we asked for the check and some boxes. It was not explained to us that we would pay upfront and the waitress only brought us one box for our biscuits and gravy and pancake. Why would we want to cram all of it in one box? She was snippy when we asked for another box.
All in all I wouldn’t recommend this place. After looking through the reviews it seems my experience is the norm here. Wish I had picked a...
Read moreAnyone who has given this place more than one star must have caught them on a really good day. Because today for us was bad, realllly bad. I agree with another review that this place should be happy with the extreme business of their establishment. There is one waitress gray hair with glasses that was extremely rude with facial expressions and body language my husband and I ordered a breakfast plate that came with meat but we did not care to have meat she gave us a look as if we were from another planet now I had we asked for a substitution which by the way none are allowed so we didn't ask nor did we ask for a concession such as taking anything off the price of the meal we gladly paid the full price of the meal even though we didn't care to have meat. When asked for decaf coffee from the other waitress the expression and the body language appeared to be that it was a struggle. Get with the times people some of us don't like regular coffee for whatever reasons, health or personal taste and some of us don't eat meat . we're not asking you to change your menu to reflect this so don't be rude to us because of our choices.... signs all over the place claims that their short staffed and we understand all of this the past two and a half years with covid but enough is enough already and if you can't play with the big boys then don't be in the industry quit taking it out on the customers why would anybody want to go back there and be treated with rude unfriendly you're bothering us attitude and to top things off the meal...
Read moreLoved the sausage! My french toast was perfect. and I saw a platter of dinner plate sized pancakes that looked amazing. So 3 stars are all for the excellent food at budget friendly prices. Kudo's to the cook! This place is a bit run down but clean and has a local grub spot vs tourist trap vibe which is nice and what I usually look for in the "hole-in-the-wall" Mom & Pop shop eateries I prefer. Sadly that's where my good experienced ends. The server (and I discovered owner) was friendly and chatty...but only to people she knew, calling them by name, and lingering to talk. I guess I must have been wearing my "I'm a tourist" button, because I got a side of "what a bother" with my breakfast, every interaction from the order to the bill was delivered with a scowl, snippy replies and just a generally sour demeanor. I tried! I'm a pretty friendly person, and smiled, spoke politely, even tried joking a little. I wasn't demanding or rude in anyway, that's not my style. Didn't matter in the least. Grumpy's is the name of the place and grumpy service is what I got. Too bad! This could have been a favorite eatery since my lodging experience has been wonderful and I plan on staying in the area again, but I will take less than great food over unfriendly service any day. Your milage may vary, but I don't think they care for non-locals so be warned. I...
