Overpriced for the quality of the food... It wasn't bad, but not great either.
This was our first time out to eat since Covid19 hit the U.S. We felt safe eating here because staff were masked and everyone was seated a great distance apart. There were only a handful of people when we arrived. We requested a table tucked back in a corner. I felt we were well-distanced and appreciated the precautions they took in regard to keeping guests separated. :)
I paid $18 for a small serving of fettuccine alfredo. Like it was literally a child-sized portion of noodles with sauce. I figured for that price I'd have a large serving so I could have leftovers. The dish came with a teeny side salad (for $2 extra) and garlic bread. Well... The server forgot my garlic bread, and about halfway through my meal I had to ask for it. He responded with "let me see if there's any garlic bread." Then delivered it to my table with "here's some garlic bread." It was strange... because my meal came with garlic bread. So a "whoops sorry about that!" would've been great! Not treated me as if I was requesting something extra and he'd see if he could provide it. 🤷♀️ weird right?
My pasta was well-cooked, but the sauce was bland. It needed salt but due to covid, no salt on the tables. My husband's veggie burger was small and tasted like a Morningstar patty or something lol. He said he'd rather eat a burger at Carl's Jr for 1/3 of the cost.
My teen son totally loved his West Coast burger. The fries were GREAT but only a small amount given with the burgers. Looking back I wish I would've just gotten a big side of fries and not spent the $18 on that pasta! 😬 My daughter had the quesadilla kids meal. The quesadilla was good, but the Spanish rice was mushy and bland. Our server was great at refilling drinks. And he was kind. The food came quickly.
Anyway, there were good things and bad, so 3 stars it is. I don't think we'll be back though. For these prices we just expect more. 🤷♀️ more quality and quantity. And we're somewhat disappointed that we've waited a long time to dine in a restaurant and we had a less than...
Read moreThe good: The Mahi-mahi on the tacos was great. Wish I just ordered that with nothing else whatsoever. That was the only good thing about eating here. The taco shells were definitely microwaved as they fell apart before even taking a bite. This cost 13.00. The chicken quesadilla (12.00) had chicken on half of it and the other half had nothing on it. It tasted awful, it was slimy! I don't believe they put cheese on it, I couldn't even finish it. Not sure how that could happen. The rice and beans were dry. Guacamole looked like green paste and tasted like it too, not sure if there was actual avocado in there, we didn't see any. Chips were stale.
Bottom line: worst, but most expensive Mexican food I've ever had. The line was out the door because it's the only Mexican restaurant in town and when people are set on Mexican, nothing else can satisfy that craving. If anyone wants to open up a Mexican restaurant here, they would have an incredible amount of success and it would hopefully force Dos Rocas to start serving decent food to its customers and not make fools out of everyone simply because they can. The food was not worth a fourth of the price we paid for it. I HATE Taco Bell and if I had a do over, I would have picked that over what I got...
Read moreThe pros: The waitress was incredibly nice, and the portions were decent. The mixed greens in the fajita salad were good, in fact the entire salad was good. Their cilantro ranch was really spicy and pretty good. The salsa wasn't bad, decently flavored with some slight kick. Unfortunately, those are the best things I can say.
The cons: The decor left much to be desired, the seats were incredibly uncomfortable. Despite being the only customers, service was slow. The menu was really basic, nothing particularly special or unique. Unfortunately, the chips were fried in what tasted like incredibly old oil; in fact, anything that we ordered that was fried tasted the same way- my son's fries, our flautas, our taquitos, and the taco shell from a taco salad. That nasty oil was the biggest disappointment, as it really made so much of the food taste horrible. Their pop was also flat, and they couldn't fix it. The carne asade was bland, dry and overcooked.
We visited from out of town, and decided on this restaurant because of the decent reviews. But, our visit left much...
