Waffle House — Restaurant in Rocky Mount

We are a family that loves waffle house and frequently stops when traveling, as we did on Friday night. When we walked in, there were 3 employees behind the counter and only 4 customers at the counter. We received no greeting and there was quite literally only one clean, bussed table in the restaurant - that should have been our clue. Our order was taken, then came out sporadically. My son and I both ordered the All-Star sub hashbrowns for grits. We never did receive toast and had to ask where our waffles were after we'd already finished eating everything else. Brought my son's and by the time he was halfway through still hadn't brought mine. Husband went to pay and she finally brought my waffle, but it was cold and she gave me no butter. Didn't eat it, and left in disgust. During the entire 30-40 minutes it remained mostly empty and not a single table was ever cleaned up. Food was OK, and service was rather mediocre.

Waffle was a little raw. Not too bad but neither great. But the chocolate drops on the waffle really tasted like a chocolate.

Chicken in a cheese hash browns bowl tasted good and seems to be fresh, cheese was all right, but the hash browns, except from a thin crispy layer had a texture of shortly cutter spaghetti, which did not feel right.

From the service point of view, — we simply did not feel to be welcome. E.g., (but not limited to) when we were leaving my wife said, to the employees, — thank you, have a good day. Nobody has answered and they were looking at her like she said something inappropriate. In addition to luck of the general friendliness, the waitress also forgot some details of the order.

So, overall, 4 minus for food, and 3 for service, i.e., three...

Have been coming into the location for several years now. Last two experiences have been awful. Once on a Sunday morning, music was very loud, staff was dancing and singing, service was absolutely awful. Just this morning, food was terrible, waiter never came back to our table to refill coffee. Female cook was in break, sat at bar area next to us. The entire time she eating she was talking with food in her mouth, yelling at the staff. We have praised this location for awhile about the friendly staff and the attention they pay to their customers but no more.
