Mondragon — Restaurant in Rogers Park Township

I used go here for quick food because I lived a block away. It was good at the time.

However, I have a huge suspicion against them after I paid using a debit card. When asked to enter my PIN, they had me enter it on their payment tablet. But when i got my receipt, it looked like it was ran as credit, because of the line to add a tip. Sure enough, my banking app showed it as credit. So why did I enter my PIN on a tablet? That's also not standard protocol. So it raised a red flag, but i ignored it because I trusted these people because i came here regularly. This was one of the very rare times I decided to pay with debit, because all other times I use a credit card. If anything were to happen to my money... this restaurant would be the place where it happened.

A few months go by and while I was on vacation in another state, I checked my bank account to only find $12 in my account. Someone withdrew most of my money at a local ATM. Fortunately this was easy to reverse because my alibi was that I wasn't even in Chicago when the money was withdrawn.

Generally, I'm very lax about how I spend my money but I do know if something seems off. This last restaurant visit was the last time I ever felt like...

Ordered burrito with extra meat which cost an extra $2. I'd seen one from their location (my brother had it) so I know they exist. I've been unhappy with orders in the past but mom likes the taco dinner. So I chanced it.

Ordered, picked up & got to the house. I was determined that unsatisfactory food would not tolerated. Opened it up, sliced down the middle.......and darn near nothing but lettuce. Not this time. I called to advise I'd bring it back on the next day. I couldn't wait, walked it back immediately and got a refund. The cook could care less. He did not take a look at what was returned, no apology, no acknowledgement...or anything.

Surprisingly mom was unhappy with her taco dinner and salsa as well....so with this final order they have sealed the deal. No more of my dinero will...

I really enjoy going to this place not only do they have the best très Leche cake that I’ve ever tried, but they’re Fonz pretty good too. They’re always friendly the portions are as large.
