Jarvis Square Tavern — Restaurant in Rogers Park Township

Came here for a friends 24th birthday a few weeks ago, and this place honestly ruined it!! We were originally excited because a few friends live in the area and said that this place looked super cute… Went up to the bar and the bartender just completely ignored me, serving 3 other people. I waited for 5ish minutes until an older man came up next to me and she started serving him. I walked away and my friends tried to order drinks. The bartender proceeded to check their IDs and then scream at the top of her lungs “EVERYONES IDS OUT NOW”. This was totally targeted at us since we were the only people under 50 at this place. She went around on a power trip to each of us and I kid you not, looked at each of our IDs for several minutes as if they were fake. After she THOROUGHLY checked all of our IDs, she simply walked away. No apology, no nothing. I mean she really thought she ate!!! We ended up just leaving because she obviously did not want to serve us. This bartender was one of the rudest people I have ever met in my life, and I hope she gets the help that she needs because treating patrons like this is unacceptable!! WE were excited to check thia place out it looks beautiful online and its close to home...We walked in No one greeted us..Big Guy behind the bar looked right at my husband and I..didn't say anything...We were trying to figure out do we just sit anywhere...the gentleman still doesn't say anything to us....We decide to seat ourselves then noticed it says CASH ONLY...my husband walks to the bar to double check ..the gentleman was speaking to someone sitting at the bar ..he finishes his conversation...then turns to my husband ..my husband confirms it is CASH ONLY...I was so happy that was the case...We said thank you so much...and got OUT OF THERE...HE WAS SO RUDE ANS JUST BAD VIBE!!!! I really love this spot, which is basically a straight-friendly sports bar for queer people. But it’s also so much more. They have a great tap list if you’re into beer. They also a classy but accessible cocktail menu. The last time I was there, there was an almond joy slushie spinning in the slush machine, and I think the other was a red wine slushie. I got free samples, and they were both delicious. The bartenders are great. The last time I went, the owner thought I might like to try a hard kombucha after I ordered a hard seltzer and took the initiative to bring it to me. It was so thoughtful! They have open mic night on Wednesday and also host other fun community events. They don’t serve food, but you can order from R Public two doors down and have it delivered right to your table. Jarvis Square Tavern has something for everyone, and it’s super welcoming...
