Update 9/23/23: Prices continue to climb, a bottle of sauce went up $4 to $14 a bottle. You can easily find better for the money unfortunately, even with the general issues of inflation.

Tldr: Decades old, area staple that has unfortunately priced itself far above what they offer. I can't even recommend their sauce bottles anymore at $14 a piece, just lunacy. Dinner buffet occasionally, early relationship date or small family things work great here. Food is lower quality but tastes great, service is good. The restaurant has interesting decor, bathrooms could use some work.

I've been going to Khan's since 2007. I'll leave out most of the obvious stuff like that it's a buffet. More directly, it's a great way to try food like this for picky eaters as you build your own bowl. Their house sauce has a great unique flavor compared to other brands of mongolian sauces and that's what draws people back. It's nice that they have lamb available, but don't show up too far past dinner as restocking on the buffet slows considerably. They will usually refill a bin of something if you ask though. The cuts of food/meat aren't the best, but you know and expect that as they come out tasty anyway. The cooking methods, chips, salsa, sauces, all still the same which is good. It's what is unique to them, it's what makes Khan's, Khan's. Luckily they haven't tried new gimmicks or changed directions to offer steaks and soups.

They do have one bowl options earlier in the day but they seem a poor value compared to the buffet. It used to be a cheap good tasting little asian place but they have moved up market price wise, even pre covid. For better or worse, not much else has changed inside or food wise. This seems to have mainly been the case since they opened decades before even I started visiting. You don't get wings or buns with your starter plate anymore unfortunately but you do still get chips and salsa. We used to visit once a month but have dropped to twice or less a year due. The saving grace is when they occasionally have bottles in stock to sell sauces. We went from not having gone in 11+ months to monthly visits again. We really appreciate the option to have khans more frequently and it benefits them as we spend money on a high profit item rather than skipping the...

My friends and I first tried Khan's when it was located in Dinky Town (near the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus). We thought the food was very good due to the fresh ingredients. They moved to the present Roseville location but we thought they closed so it took us a few years to realize they were still open (this happened over a decade before smartphones and sophisticated mapping software). We made the place a regular destination. They opened a second location in Richfield (which was more convenient for me and my family). Through the years they stuck to their original practices of fresh ingredients and great preparation. For anyone unfamiliar with Mongolian barbecue, raw ingredients (meats, vegetables, and sauces are arranged in a long bar where customers load their bowls with whatever suits their fancy. Once the bowls are loaded, they are taken to a counter where cooks take the bowls and stir-fry them on huge, flat, round griddles. When the food is cooked it is plated and returned to the customer. Another Mongolian barbecue chain (Genghis) was in the area but they tended to overcook the food making the vegetables mushy and less nutritious. The cooks at Khan's were trained correctly to respect the food and deliver the exceptional quality they had from the beginning. Service is generally prompt and courteous. The place is great for kids but for those wanting a quiet, romantic atmosphere, go elsewhere. But if great food in a casual atmosphere is what you want, Khan's is the place. Because each customer picks what ingredients go into their bowls, they have control over their meals. We will return whenever we have the time to make the trek...

I wish it could have been better. I went recently with my boyfriend after avoiding Mongolian BBQ for years on end because of a bad experience at a different grill. A handful of slightly off-putting things happened during our visit which made the overall experience bad.

1.) We were seated at a dirty table despite having not even ten other parties there dining.

2.) The man refilling our water cups was adamant on a refill and would cross over us in mid conversation. Our glasses was still more than half full, so I found this a tad rude.

3.) We asked if having peanut allergies would be an issue (boyfriend has allergies) and were told "No just tell the chefs and they will clean the grill and not add peanuts". Upon telling the chef that my boyfriend was allergic, he threw an entire spoon of peanuts onto his food, my boyfriend had to get a new bowl, and proceeded to be glared at by the chefs every time we went up to the grill.

4.) They do not wash their vegetables. Clearly dirt and grime all over at the buffet table. I felt like I bit into sand a few times, it was not ideal.

5.) The "dessert bao" were revolting. Mouthfuls of granulated white sugar were in the bun. If it were to be made correctly with brown sugar, they would have been pretty good. We asked the waiter to confirm that was white sugar and he said "Yes it is sugar. It should have melted while cooking, but I guess it sat too long and became solid again." That was definitely incorrect because white sugar melted in that form will not go back to its...

Walking into this place it's decor igas lots of red colors and art and gongs. I never been to mongolia so I can't tell you if the decor is correct. The place smells great due to the food getting cooked in the open near the giant gong. The food bar was surprisingly clean and well organized. There was anything from beef to shrimp.. they even had vegetables and diffrent types of noodles. Overall a good selection you can do an all you can eat for like 23$ but you can't take the left overs home or a bowl for 21$ it was not a big difference but you can take the leftover home. If you layer your bowl properly you can fit more than enough to feed a hungry tribe in it. The food cooks within 5 to 10 minutes depending on how much meat you get. Pro tip. Open the meat up so it layers easier.. fill bowl at least about 1/4 way with sauces to avoid it being too dry. Also use the thinner noodles because they hold the sauce better than the thick bigger ones. The food is nothing spectacular but I'm not a big fan of the frozen beef and products that are paler thin. If you find meats that are not rock hard and thawed out because they don't turn out as rubbery when cooked. The staff was all very nice and professional. They were willing to help where they can and made sure everything was as we wanted.. while there we did not feel rushed and our server made us feel at home. I forgot to take a photo so I had already eaten a good 1/4 before taking the photo. Thats an example of how much food fits in that tiny bowl.

To specify this review is regarding the Khan Mongolian BBQ in Roseville location and the others may be managed very differently. I have never disliked my food and experience so much as I did here . When you first walk in you can't help but notice all the unnecessary signs stating in bold letters that no boxes will be given for left overs. When you are handed the menu you can't help but be reminded AGAIN that not only are boxes will not be provided but also that there are no free refills and that you are PROHIBITED to share drinks such as soda. So I am not allowed to share my fountain drink with a friend? These unnecessary restrictions only makes you wonder where else they penny pinch. The question is answered when you make you receive your "free appetizers". The rice was dry as a rock, completely tasteless and stale. When you go make your bowl you have employees staring and they refuse to allow you to pour your own sauce in your bowl. To top it off a dead fly was found on our sweet roll. We made the waitress aware, she apologized and even though we watched her show a manager, the manager never approached us at all. She also CONFIRMED there is a fly problem freely. Overall the food is disgusting, unprofessional and dirty. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! After we paid and let we let some customers coming in how horrible it was and they turned right back around.
