I went to Portillo’s on Friday, March 31, 2023 with my mother to try it out. Time was about 4:30 pm. My grandmother had gone a few months ago with residents from her building and the seniors had complained about loudness and the service model where customers order at the register and pick up at the orders counter. My experience with those two issues was fine. There were few people there at 4:30 pm on a Friday (see picture), so it was not especially loud. And I am very used to a quick service model. Actually Raising Cane’s nearby has the same exact model and it’s good!
My one star review is actually because of three marks: 1) Incorrect order on two drinks; 2) Italian Beef sandwich that was a soggy mess; 3) a chaotic kitchen where both a lot was happening and nothing happening.
Drinks. I verbally ordered a large Diet Coke. I received a small Diet Coke. My mother ordered a large Diet Coke. She received a large Iced Tea. We swapped and I had the Iced Tea with no ice in it.
The food we ordered included: A Maxwell Polish Dog and Italian Beef for me. Chicken Tenders for my mother. She wanted to go to Raising Cane’s. The Maxwell Polish Dog was great! The Italian Beef was wrapped extremely well in wax paper, so it became a soggy mess. My mother did not like the barbecue sauce with her Chicken Tenders, which was trying to be maybe a Carolina vinegar-based barbecue. She did add salt to the Chicken Tenders, so thank you to Portillo’s for providing salt and pepper at every table to liven things up.
Kitchen chaos. It was a weird situation where there are a lot of people standing around and then one or two managers frantically carrying handfuls of bagged orders around. I am not a restaurant expert, but generally I see at a McDonalds or the Four Seasons everyone having a job to do and the ship running better.
As you can see from my profile, I don’t often do reviews, but I think Rosedale would be better served with a different restaurant tenant here.
We’re from Minneapolis, and so I joked to my mother that if she wanted to go to Raising Cane’s, we should go to the world-famous Third Precinct and have the Raising Cane’s from the Lake Street location. Right now, March 31, the City is deciding whether to rebuild. But the Raising Cane’s is “new” and always very good.
Part of me wanted to try the seasonal Mint Chocolate Shake at Portillo’s, but I am going to Starbucks across the street...
Read moreOriginally I wasn’t going to write a review I was so disappointed in this establishment. I have been waiting so long and I kept telling myself that this is a place that I want to eat it because I’ve heard great things. I go there and of course part of the blame is myself I went through the drive-through I take that responsibility. I ordered a double cheeseburger a chili cheese hot dog french fries and then a drink. Now when I ordered it it comes up as a meal altogether. But what I received was à la cart and I had to pay for each individual item all of that together came to about $20.45. i’m not complaining about the price because anything worth having is worth paying for. well when I get my food it’s the hamburger is chard and I generally don’t have the time to go and argue with somebody over the fact that they didn’t do their job correctly so it has gotten to the point where now I’m going to use my words. But even before I get to the hamburger I wanted to try a hotdog and all I can do, best way I can describe the hot dog to you is That I thought I was adding Nathan’s hot dog eating competition and someone had dipped my hamburger bun in water and the hotdog placed on it with chili and cheese if that’s what that was. Back to the Cheeseburger it was so chard the cheese wasn’t melted I asked for no lettuce tomato pickles or onions because I just wanted the burger it had so much mayonnaise on it and I’m OK with mayonnaise but not to the point where it’s on the side dripping down the chard Cheeseburger. I paid for it so I doctored it up cleaned it off with a napkin add a little bit of ketchup to it and this is after being disgusted by my hotdog. Correction chili cheese dog. So to say that I was disappointed is a huge understatement. Normally I investigate a place before I take anyone to said please because I want them to have the experience that I had and since I don’t want anyone to have the experience that I had I will never be returning. Final thought we should all be full snobs because there is a standard that we are supposed to except for ourselves and if we don’t except it then what happens is the bar gets lowered with each experience. So please people please hold these people to a higher standard so we can get back...
Read moreLook I’m not writing this review to gain anything from it. I’m not looking for a gift card or anything free. I just want to share our experience. We stopped in there on Tuesday night 11/21. We ordered our meal and were helped by a nice young girl who was running the register. She had a long braid. But There was one worker who was SO incredibly loud. She had a black scarf covering her head. She was talking SO loud you could hear her thru out the entire dining room. Talking obnoxious to her co workers and really showing her immature age. We ordered two drinks and the syrup needed to be changed. I told the cashier that the syrup was out and walked the drinks back to the pick up area for two new ones. While standing there waiting for the syrup to be changed, the loud rude worker comes walking by yelling to everyone how the syrup needs to be changed and she’s not going to do it. I continued to stand there FOREVER. Not ONE employee asked if I needed help. I told one employee what I was waiting for. She magically disappeared and never came back to help me. No one acknowledged me. If anything they went out of their way to avoid eye contact. It wasn’t till 10 min later the nice girl who was running the cash register handed me two new cokes. I think she realized no one was helping me or maybe she even did the syrup change herself, I don’t know. But my food was getting old while I continued to stand there getting no help.
I did notice a man who appeared to be a manager wearing a polo. I noticed he didn’t do anything about the loud mouth, obnoxious employee who was back there carrying on the way she was. It totally ruined our evening listening to her talk to her co workers so loudly and rudely. It wasn’t cute.
I’ve worked in restaurants for over 20 years. Good help is hard to find, I get that. Do better portillios. Restaurants are a dime a dozen over there in Roseville and we...
