I want to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent experience at your Golden Corral restaurant located at [8215 Broadway Merrillville, IN] on November 15th, 2024, at approximately 7:16 PM CST. We were celebrating my grandmother's 80th birthday, and unfortunately, the experience was far from celebratory.
Upon entering the establishment, I was immediately struck by an unpleasant odor. This, coupled with a multitude of visibly greasy dishes provided, created an unappetizing atmosphere from the onset. Unfortunately, the food quality did nothing to alleviate these initial concerns. The dishes were cold, unappetizing, mushy; the turkey gravy seemed to have suds in it. "The deserts were brick hard," said my 12-year-old. "The apple pie was sickening," said my 18-year-old.
When I brought these issues to the attention of the apparent manager on duty, I was met with a series of excuses as to why a refund could not be issued. After a considerable wait of 15 minutes, I was finally granted a refund for only one meal, despite the fact that I was dining with my two daughters who were equally subjected to the subpar conditions and food.
I requested to speak with someone of higher authority but was informed that the General Manager was unavailable and would not return for over an hour. I called the following day, November 16th, and spoke with Ruby, the General Manager. Initially, she seemed receptive to my complaint and agreed to a refund minus the drinks. However, she soon retracted this offer after calling me back and becoming extremely combative stating that she would not grant the full refund, insisted I call corporate and hung up the phone!
This experience was wholly unacceptable. The unsanitary conditions, poor food quality, and dismissive customer service are not representative of the standards I expect from a reputable establishment. I request a full refund for all three meals as compensation for this deeply disappointing experience.
I have been a patron of Golden Corral in the past, but this incident has severely damaged my perception of your brand. I sincerely hope that you will take appropriate action to address these issues and prevent similar occurrences...
Read moreI wish I could rate this place 0 stars. I went here for lunch while I on a field trip with my band class. I was in the middle of eating, and I started feeling a little nauseous. (food poisoning?) I got up and went to the bathroom, (which was absolutely FREEZING, by the way. The bathrooms were colder than the temperature outside.) and sat in there for awhile just to make sure I wasn't going to vomit. After that, I couldn't even finish my food because I was so disgusted by it. So immediately after leaving the bathroom, I went to the dessert bar to get a couple of strawberries because I knew I wouldn't puke those up. As I'm standing at the dessert bar with my (dirty) plate of strawberries, SOMEBODY WALKS PAST ME AND TAKES MY PHONE OUT MY POCKET. A GROWN WOMAN STOLE A PHONE FROM A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL ON A FIELD TRIP WITH HER BAND CLASS. Long story short, it has been more than 24 hours since my phone was stolen and the police still have no idea where it is or who it was that stole it. The employees managed to stop the girl who did it right before she was about to leave, but they let her go. When the cops arrived they asked to see the video on the security cameras and I later found out the cameras were never even on. My white iPhone 5s is still missing. It had a black otter box case on it. it was last seen on February 1st, 2016 at the Merrillville, Indiana Golden Corral around 11:45 A.M. I never, ever, ever plan on returning to a Golden Corral restaurant ever again. If you like getting your phone stolen and getting food poisoning, then this is the place to go. P.S, A couple of my friends also ended up getting food poisoning the day after we went on the field trip. I later found out that everyone who had gotten sick had all eaten some of the popcorn shrimp at the Golden Corral the previous day. (P.P.S; Don't eat the popcorn shrimp.) (Actually, scratch that. Just don't ever eat...

Let’s start with the standout leadership of Manager Desean, who was professional, approachable, and incredibly informative. His presence was not only welcoming, but it also gave the restaurant a strong sense of order and care. Desean took the time to check in, answer questions, and ensure every guest was having a top-tier experience. That kind of customer care speaks volumes about the quality of leadership and service here.
As a vegetarian, I was especially pleased with the variety and thoughtful preparation of the vegetable offerings. Everything from the sautéed greens to the roasted veggies was flavorful, fresh, and cooked to perfection—not an afterthought like at many other places. It’s clear that the kitchen takes pride in offering something for everyone, and vegetarians will absolutely feel seen and satisfied here.
The entire dining area was clean and well-maintained, with staff frequently checking in and ensuring that all stations remained stocked and spotless. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, making for an enjoyable and comfortable meal.
