Another guest and I ate here on Easter Sunday. They had a brunch option specifically for the holiday, which I thought was nice. We sat down and my water glass was so dirty that I requested for it to be replaced. Everyone that we came across was overly nice but the service was incredibly poor. I had to request a carryout box 4 times before I finally got one, the staff were eating/drinking at the bar in eye view of guests and on their phones while working. I had to prompt my server to ask me about toast when she first took my order, and they had to come back and ask food options to my guest. The coffee cups are too small for their pours to be very infrequent. Even small things like not offering condiments (e.g. ketchup, hot sauce), we had to prompt staff that some items were near empty (had 8 hazelnut creamers to 1 french vanilla brought out), and remind them to bring out things that came with the food.
My understanding is that this business is new and it will be absolutely critical for them to take new customer feedback so they can improve immediately. The owner(s) needs to seek mentorship from restaurant owners who can teach them what best-in-class service and delivery looks like to save this business. If they continue on the path they are on; despite having good food, then they won’t make it. I wish The Social Restaurant all the best in hopes they course correct based on...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking for somewhere different for dinner last weekend, and happened to find this place. So, being a fairly new restaurant, we wandered down and decided to give them a try,
The dining room was pretty empty, so we were seated immediately. We started with a couple appetizers, the bacon wrapped jalapeños and the bruschetta. The four peppers were filled with a cream cheese, then wrapped with crispy bacon, cooked to perfection, then drizzled with a balsamic glaze. The bruschetta was herbaceous, yet nicely balanced, with small toast points.
For entrees, I had the fettuccine Alfredo with salmon, while my wife had pasta with grilled chicken ina vodka sauce. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the sauce had a strong, yet pleasant, parmesan flavor. The vodka sauce was somewhat different than we were used to, but was still excellent, and the chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender.
For a place like this to be that slow on a weekend tells me that people just don't know what they're missing out on. We will most certainly be back to try more...
Read moreI will NEVER patronize this place again! Being a new restaurant in Merrillville, near my home, my family and I were excited to try it. Bad idea! The customer service was awful. From the waiter through the management, they were Ill-informed, impatient, attitudinal and dismissive. I there were a way that I could not even rate this place one star, I would have. The only thing worse than the service there is the food! It is terrible. I ordered the crepes and the filling was old and rancid. When we brought it to the attention of the establishment, they said without one shred of surprise, “well do you want to order something else?” Clearly this lack of quality in their food and subpar customer service is commonplace and not worthy of one dime of mine. I would encourage others to avoid spending your money with this establishment and opt for better options...
