⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars for Mission BBQ for great food, comforting and inspiring ambiance, friendly service, and cleanliness! I had the turkey and pulled chicken with mac and cheese and a salad. It was ALL delicious, and the table sauces, too (my favs were Memphis Belle and Smoky Mountain)! 🤤🤤🤤
If you're interested in more details I have included a few below. Please give my review a thumbs up if you find it helpful.
FOOD: Both my turkey and chicken were perfectly moist, not dry as turkey can often be. Also, they were well seasoned. I ate some of both the chicken and turkey without sauce and either way they are darn good! All the sauces were pretty good but the NC Vinegar, Memphis Belle and Smoky Mountain were by far the best to me. The cornbread tasted like Jiffy, which I liked. The mac and cheese had some kind of little bread crumb topping that added this perfect little crunch. It was superb. The salad was fresh and a good portion. They have limited salad dressing options: only Italian, ranch and honey mustard but it's a BBQ joint, so...🤷🏾♀️
SERVICE & CLEANLINESS: Everyone was helpful and kind. The guy who took my order didn't rush me, which I really appreciated. And the lady working in the dining area was sweet and kept tables clear and clean. I have been to restaurants around here, even new ones, with questionable cleanliness and hygiene. Not here. Everything was in order. A+ for this attention to detail. 💯
AMBIANCE: The country music was a mix of styles and made me feel so comfy and laid back. There's also plenty of seating. And its accessible for people of all sizes. The memorabilia and decor on the walls and surfaces of the interior celebrate our fellow citizens who serve whether in the military or as police officers, fire fighters, or other first responders. I was moved and inspired and literally teared up reading some of the quotes and the founders' story about launching on September 11, 2011, and why. 🇺🇸
I had been so excited for Mission BBQ to open because it is hard to find places to eat clean when you don't feel like cooking. Waiting for Mission to open was well worth the wait. It will be one of my new regular...

This was our first time visiting Mission BBQ in Merrillville, Indiana. I’m so glad we decided to stop. We have been saying for a while we were going to stop and order some food just to test it out and see if we like it. I’m so glad we decided to do that. We had a pulled pork sandwich, Ribs, homemade cornbread and peach cobbler. The ribs just fell off the bone and were delicious. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent and the cornbread and fries were tasty. We also got to choose what sauces we wanted and we chose Smoky Mountain and the Memphis Belle sauces. We really really liked the Memphis Bell sauce. One of the best sauces I’ve ever tasted. The Smoky Mountain sauce was okay but it didn’t really have any kick to it. I plan to try some of the other sauces next time we visit.
The team that prepared our food was very warm, professional and kind. The team greeted us as soon as we walked through the door. They knew it was our first time visiting because of how we were looking at the menu so they kind of helped us out and explained that everything is sold à la cart. We decided to take our food to go. It did not take long to get our order either. It was perfect. They also have an area where you can dine in but we were pressed for time so we took our food to go.
On our way out, we noticed that they had pictures of veterans on the walls throughout the restaurant as well as military memorabilia. It was a nice vibe to see the patriotic spirit that was in the atmosphere. If you’ve ever served in the military or are currently active duty, you should definitely check out Mission BBQ because they really do honor veterans and they make good food. 10/10...
Read moreI don't want to seem disrespectful, and I love their theme but the food missed the mark. Ribs seasoned with old bay was something unfamiliar to me although I've had my share of traditional types of BBQ & the 5 bones I bought were dry and only had rub (old bay) on them. The brisket was on point. The sausage was something I could've found at the grocery store so it was nothing special about it. The cornbread was more like a cornbread bite that I didn't even eat because it was so small in portion size that I didn't even have a desire to eat it. The fries were overcooked. The Mac and 🧀 was ok... nothing to write 🏡 about. My 5 🧀 macaroni is way better. The steak was very tender but it wasn't seasoned. I noticed what appeared to be 2 smokers on site but I didn't smell anything smoking when I was in the lobby ordering my food. It was my first time going there and as the saying goes "a first impression is a lasting impression" and unfortunately I was not impressed & more than likely not revisit. I don't profess to be a BBQ connoisseur or pitmaster but my BBQ is way better. I trust that MISSION BBQ will take this review as constructive criticism and seek a better strategy to improve their product. I enjoyed the customized blacked out deuce and a half in the parking lot 😎, and the lobby decor that pays tribute to the military and law enforcement👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸, but the food was a NO-GO! Perhaps a recon mission is in order to find what it takes to make some award winning all...
