The best vegan corn beef sandwich my husband and I have ever had! This was by far 1000 times better than any “real,” corn beef sandwich I’ve ever had because you don’t have that white fatty glue holding it together, but you magically have all the flavor! Their vegan selection is outstanding and is great for anyone trying trying to lower their cholesterol without feeling like your only option is salad! The orange creamsicle and espresso gelato, and vegan dill red skin potato salad was equally amazing and savory. I can’t wait to go back and try their vegan egg salad and other flavors of gelato but will probably reorder the vegan corn beef again! Do yourself a huge favor and order two sandwiches so you have one for the next day, because you will be sad once it’s gone! The staff is also super friendly! The staff told me that the owner started offering a vegan sandwich because his wife is vegan and he wanted for her to be able to have something she could eat on the menu. Her sandwich became so popular they had to keep it permanently and expand their vegan options. That alone makes me glad I support this independently owned business. Listen, the food is good, I won't lie. We got two vegan sammies and were happy with the quality and flavor. My three star review is all about the price. Everyone I have talked to agrees that $14 (without any sides) is too much to ask for sandwiches. I got two sandwiches, made them combos (which is $2 additional per combo for a small bagof chips and a can of soda), and a small slice of vegan cheesecake and spent $40. Like I said, the food is good, but I won't be back until the current pricing is addressed. If I could offer constructive criticism, I would say that most vegan places in Detroit average about $12-$13 for a sandwich like this and includes fries and a drink. The side and small chip/can of soda is what really made me feel the value wasn't worth it.

Edit: per owner's response below I understand the price hike and changed my review from 3 stars to 5 as the food IS good and they clearly care enough to address these issues. I am interested in seeing how things will change and will keep my eyes open. I just tried Oak Street Deli for the first time today, after my wife recommended it. From the time that I came in and until the time I left, I encountered the best customer service from an employee, Jaylin (I hope I spelled your name right, I apologize if I messed it up!). He took his time and answered all my questions that I had about my order, one of the sandwiches had a few different things added and nothing was forgotten! He wasn’t bothered when I asked if I remembered to get certain items on the custom sandwich. Cut the sandwich in half and showed me before he wrapped it up to go. This is the kind of customer service that brings me back to places and I will definitely be going back and hopefully get to see him again! Thank you so much again, Jaylin! Give this man a raise!

On the topic of the food, the bbq chicken sandwich was perfect, as was the side of chili. My wife had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich and chicken noodle soup.
