Rarely leave reviews, but feel inclined to share a really positive experience I had with Detroit Amp Lab.
I came in with my Fender Blues Jr. and explained that it had been my ride-or-die, touring amp for nearly 15 years. A piece of gear I’ve loved since my teen years. The amp was having a ton of issues and I feared that we were reaching the end of the road. I dropped it off and got a call maybe an hour later. As I suspected, repairs were going to cost a fortune - way more than the amp was worth. He told me he could do the repairs, but was completely transparent in explaining that realistically, it wasn’t a cost-effective solution. I came back the next day to pick up the amp, and despite expecting a service charge, wasn’t even billed for the diagnostic.
All of this to say, sometimes the most glowing review you can provide isn’t that the tech is an amp genius (which I’m sure he is), but rather, that he prioritized doing right by the customer over making a buck. This was probably 2 months ago and I've thought about it many times since. We’ve all been gouged on repairs… whether it’s our cars, amps, whatever. Read moreTom Currie and the Team at Detroit Amp Lab are highly recommended. Tom rescued my four Univox U45Bs and brought them into the modern world with fresh caps, properly grounded 3-prong cords and NOS parts plus boosted Weber 50w speakers I had selected. This took just one week! Phenomenal work and rock solid dependable. Since moving into the commercial space, they have stocked an impressive array of vintage Fender, Vox and Marshall amps, guitars and select, restored vintage keyboards. They also work magic on restoring vintage stereo hifi components. To be honest, their Royal Oaks location is worth the trip if you are anywhere in the...
