The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced, the staff were friendly and extremely hard working and attentive (I swear my water was never empty for more than a second. I'd blink and it was full again). As a white man asking for spicy food from a Thai place I often get comments when I order spicy food about whether I can handle it, but not from Penn's Thai Kitchen! They brought just enough heat to enhance the flavors but not too much—just the right amount. My dish's presentation was beautiful (although quickly ruined by my use of the rice to sop up the sauce), and they only gave as much silverware as I asked for which is a blessing in disguise given that I'm very conscious about saving dishes, energy, dish-soap, etc.
The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, but not very relaxing. The large TV overhead is a little distracting and playing blatant advertisement TV shows like QVC. I'm sure they would have turned it down for me had I asked but I didn't bother today.
The best parts about this place are their special diet accommodations. Most dishes can be made vegan and there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Better yet, the tofu is cheaper than the meat so that vegetarians aren't subsidizing the meat eaters like every other restaurant does!
There was no WiFi that I could find. Not saying there isn't any, but it wasn't anything obvious like "Penn's WiFi"
10/10, would...
Read moreI couldn't be more disappointed. We have come here for many years. Instantly knew this was new ownership.
While mistakes happen, and not everyone is perfect, my expectation is that if something is wrong, hear me out, help make it right.
We ordered dinner for 3. Tom yum, Chicken fried rice: garlic fried rice, Mild+ and one Mild. Now I'm sitting at home trying to get flavor on one of my Mild+ dishes with salt, pepper, crunchy garlic umami topping from home. There was an obvious difference between the dishes. different toppings. different colors, much different taste.
I called to let them know perhaps someone forgot to fully prep the chicken fried rice dish, and to get a replacement. The response was " yes, I make all the rice, it's all correct". The tom yum tastes like lemon concentrate. Very sour, with a bit of spice. My fiance was not able to even attempt to finish it. She couldn't get past 2 spoons.
Needless to say, they didn't want to help. Didn't care that anything could be wrong. Seemed like they were more concerned with being right than getting it right. I understand it was the end of the night, but that is no excuse. I expect poor service and bad food from KFC if it's right before close, not from here.
I'm beyond disappointed. Frustrated. Worst of all, hungry. This learning lesson...
Read moreI’ve been coming here the past couple months for their curry and crab Rangoon. All past experiences were good.
I introduced my cousin to the restaurant today and Thai food for the first time my cousin decided to order something safe like chicken kabobs. Then he asked me if he could order something else because we were actually rushing to make it somewhere. I could hear the cashier talking in the back, I paid it no mind but it was apparently embarrassing for us to have a bite of my takeout while we were waiting for his curry order in the restaurant, where not a single customer was dining in at the time. My cousin is 18 years old and he decided to buy the curry after he tasted mine.
The cashier asking us not to eat inside the restaurant is one thing, but I didn’t appreciate the way of how we were spoken to as if we weren’t aware we ordered takeout. I think it was more embarrassing how I received the wrong amount of change from the cashier when I gave her $50 bill for a $20 order, and only received $8 back. I didn’t make a big deal out of it nor the fact that my curry has no spice to it at all when I requested medium plus but that’s OK. We won’t ever...
