This review pains me to make. We were very excited to try La Cantina. The first time we attempted to eat here was on a Friday evening and the music was so loud we didn't even wait to be seated (it was not busy) and left right away. But we came back because the atmosphere is fun, it is definitely a vibe! Lots of beautiful artwork and very instagramable.
This time we went on a Sunday afternoon and again, it wasn't busy. The service and atmosphere is very good. We had a fantastic server Rafael who was knowledgeable and on top of us. Food and drinks arrived quickly! I wish I tried the margarita flight, I saw another table order and looked delicious. My regular margarita was made very well!
Now for the tough part. This food was NOT it. It was absolutely edible but NOTHING was seasoned. Salsa tasted like I was drinking straight from a can of crushed tomatoes. The guac tasted like sabras pre mashed but with tomato and onion added, but again also totally under seasoned and very bland. My daughter got the taquitos (without the extras) and they arrived as tacos with some fried/burnt cheese, these are NOT taquitos but basically just tacos. The chicken was pulled and did have some seasoning... These were genuinely much better than adult chick chicken tacos I ordered... Again ZERO SEASONING. It actually looked like boiled chicken to me. You can see this in the photo. This has to be the most bland meal I ever had out to eat.
It saddens me to leave this review, because I had high hopes for this location and the overall vibe of the restaurant. But the food is truly boring AF. If you want unseasoned bland Mexican food then go here, take your pickiest eaters here and they will be happy! But everyone else will be...
Read moreFirst time at La Cantinita, food was pretty good! It was a slower night, but food was quick! We sat at the bar, were greeted within the first 5 minutes by the bar tender who was very kind. We ordered the margarita flight, it came with 5 different flavors and honestly all were very good! Tamarind was our favorite. Flashy sparkler on the side but definitely not necessary. Would be cool if they could write the names in a washable marker on the boards in front of each flavor just so you don’t forget! Once our drinks arrived we were asked if we’d like to place our order and we got the taquitos for an appetizer and then the Quesabirra Quesadilla and the Birria Tacos. The food actually came out extremely fast, though they brought our appetizer after they dropped off the food - no worries we get you only have two hands! Food came out hot and fresh. Taquitos were awesome and crispy, came with sour cream and a Jalapeño crema which was very tasty. The birria was also very good, just a tad over cooked, but appreciated how much they filled the tacos/quesadilla with! Would have liked a little more onions on the tacos, but overall pretty good! We finished with a shot of tequila at our request, but at the recommendation by the bartender, Autumn, who made sure to check on us often during the meals. One thing I wasn’t fond of, since sitting at the bar, was how bright the white lights were behind the bar, was so bright it was a little hard to read the menus. Overall I’d say the atmosphere was nice and so was the service, though food could have been a little better! We...
Read moreNew patrons tonight . The bar area is unique but we sat in the dining area . Hostess was void of personality was more of the “follow me to the table” type who barely uttered a word to us . Someone came over and gave us salsa and tortilla chips to start he seemed to also later be the bus boy who was the friendliest person in the whole place and when I say friendly he atleast smiled ! . Salsa was good .chips did not seem homemade . I ordered the shrimp fajita . Very odd presentation on skewers and shrimp was bright orange . Very little onion and pepper on hot skillet . Absolutely no fajita flavoring detectable on any of it . The beans on the side were the worst beans I ever had !! Completely tasteless and were like canned baked beans ! The rice was also tasteless and also a very vivid color due to some kind of additive. . Teeny Tiny cups of pico , guac and sour cream accompanied the fajita -the sour cream was “watered down” and barely a tablespoon . My husband had the shrimp steak quesadilla . He said it didn’t have any cheese in it and also no fajita flavoring. Overall it was a very tasteless meal . No deliciousness was found at the table . Glorified Taco Bell !...
