Black Bear Diner Arden Way — Restaurant in Sacramento

I wish I took photos of my food but unfortunately I didn't for the first time. The star rating let me explain this to you. It's not because the food was not delicious.My bacon was on point my ham was on point my sausage was okay. That's because they serve me turkey I'm not a big fan of turkey I'm a beef person that's not their fault that's mine. I should have specifically said what kind of sausage I want. Now for my review maybe it's their signature to have overly sweet pancakes, but my pancake tasted like a cake and less like a pancake I'm not a big fan of the sweet pancakes I'm not, I couldn't even finish my pancake. I should have read the instructions if they're supposed to be instructions to food that recipe but the only thing I ate was the meat. My eggs, I'm an egg white person so I ordered the egg whites I should have ordered them scrambled or like ya do regular eggs because they gave me some runny egg whites and I was not meeting those I felt like I was eating a baby bird I like my egg whites like I like my chicken cooked. What else I ordered I had what they call those potatoes the one you order for the side what order some potatoes on the side not fries but no the ones you order for breakfast those are okay I didn't eat those I gave those to my my little niece she killed them bad boys though so I'm assuming that they was good and she was bouncing so that was good. But my four star was cuz of the pancakes I just can't eat sugary pancakes not my flavor it's that's it that's all. The service was great the place was clean oh and they sung happy birthday to my dad so that's why I didn't want to make a big complaint because I don't want to ruin the mood and their customers are nice too they sing happy birthday too and they clap I didn't know they have such friendly service and customer. I highly recommend that place they're good for big parties. Most of my party has a bunch of children so I'm so happy that the service that they gave was very attentive to the kids. They did not get angry or fussy or irritated because I had a lot of children with me it was all the babies the oldest was nine the youngest was 6 months. It's hard to find a restaurant where the staff does not get irritated because of the kids and the babies. I highly recommend the staff is so friendly they even managed to get all our orders right and believe me it was a lot of orders it was like 30 plus orders including the kids food. Staff got every order on point and they kept the drinks rolling like soon as I finish the cut they had me a cup already ready I was like okay then expect that usually I give me a water down drink and they wait 3 hours until I leave the one offer me another drink or I'll wait 3 hours to be served it wouldn't even that type of way the weight was fast I didn't have to wait on my way in but given the party the size of the party we had it's understandable but when the food came out hot and fresh and everybody got their food exactly at the same time highly recommend highly highly recommend. But if you're a sweet pancake person that's your prerogative I'm not I learned this at black bear I'm not a fan of sugary pancakes but other than that everybody in my party enjoyed their food I killed all the meat and the meat was poppin. The bacon was just perfect not too crispy not too soft just perfect the ham was juicy and Delicious the sausage was okay again I'm not a fan of Turkey but...

We arrived at 0730 and was told we would have to wait along with others who were waiting for a table when the place was empty and had what seemed to be a full staff. After a 15 minute wait we were finally called and went to the table. Once we were at the table the hostess/waitress/bus boy took are drink order. While were were waiting for our drinks three other waitresses came up to ask us what we want to drink. It seemed like there was a giant confusion on behalf of the staff

Once they decided on who was going to wait on us she took our order. the wait time for the food was normal. During this time the line at the door was growing. When we got our food my sausage patty was over cook to the point of being burnt. My was wife's scrambled eggs were brown and way over cooked. My English Muffin was not cook all the way and was not buttered as asked for. We tried to get the waitresses attention but to no luck so we just ate. The whole time the lobby was now full and the crowd was growing.

I had Ice Tea and my wife had coffee and she got a splash about mid-meal but it was not a real refill and I never got a refill. We finished our meal and sat there for some time waiting for a check. A bus boy had finally showed up and he was a tall not very well groomed young man wearing a baseball hat on back wards and he was now cleaning the many empty tables that has not been bused.

I have been at many Black Bear Diner all over the state and have always left feeling satisfied and like I just left my local Black Bear near my home. I have never been in such a miss managed poorly run Black Bear in all the years i have been traveling around. They are always the same, happy crews, good food and atmosphere, but...

I like writing positive reviews, so this one is hard for me.  I've eaten at several Black Bear Diners, and so I was excited for some solid comfort food.  I was dismayed by the service and the food at this location.  Once we were seated, the server came by to introduce herself.  She brought drinks shortly after, and we never saw her at our table again.  I had to track her down to let her know I'd been brought the wrong drink, and retrieve a replacement.  Unfortunately, it was clearly time to replace the syrup and my drink was bitter, which isn't ideal for root beer.  I figured I'd get refill soon enough, but that didn't happen since our server never returned.  The kitchen staff brought the food.  I had ordered taco salad.  The dressing I'd requested didn't make it to the salad.  I'd have let the server know if I'd seen her again at ANY POINT during the meal.  I thought the beans hadn't made it to the salad, either, until I discovered them under the tortilla bowl.  Evidently they'd been used to sauce the plate and weren't considered necessary to the taco salad experience.  It could have been worse, though, like my wife's green beans.  They were served in a small dish of their own, evidently to contain the juice from the can they'd been poured out of.  We'd planned on dessert but were wise enough to cut our losses.  Since no server came back, I went up to the front desk to pay.  I will never go back to that location, and recommend you don't, either.  This was a Friday night.  One would expect the best service at the beginning of the weekend.  If that's their best, I can't imagine this location will...
