Had to take Oolaba Elksob to the State Capitol, but first we eat at DAD'S Sandwiches! They're the best! Oolaba has an appointment with a room full of nitwits to explore the fact that the native Inuits of Alaska are due reparations from California because the state has banned the sale and importation of carved whale and walrus ivory and furs, which makes up 75% of the Inuit peoples income. Oolaba tells of learning his trade as a child from his father who learned from his father, and so on for many generations. California put an end to his craft by banning those items which 75% was marked for California. DAD'S Sandwiches sure puts out a great sandwich, probably the best in Sacramento. It was Oolaba's first deli sandwich, he liked it.

Dad’s is a small unassuming sandwich joint. It’s outside is covered in nature and the inside is decorated with all sorts of kitsch fake vintage signs. That and the oversize Pabst Blue Ribbon advert may lead one to think dad may very well be a hipster. I have been here twice (my usual requirement before I write a review). My first time I had the Reuben. It was good but I kept thinking that if Dad would buy better corned beef it would have been a great sandwich. My next trip to Dad’s was for breakfast. I had the “Big Daddy”. The Big Daddy is a mushroom/swiss egg sandwich with red onion. Delicious! Overall I am sure you will find something here you will enjoy.

I ordered the King’s Reuben and it’s one of the best reuben sandwiches I’ve had! Classic but also unique. The purple kraut isn’t exactly sauerkraut, which I like. The pickles are really good. I ordered the regular size. Hefty is the same size but with more meat. I was going to take it away to eat at Capitol Park, but ended up eating it fresh there and I think that’s the right way to do it. The parking seemed like how the parking is everywhere else, mostly street parking but it wasn’t crowded around a Tuesday right before lunch (11:40ish). I walked there and it’s a nice walk (especially with good weather) from the hotels around the Capitol.

I used to go to Dad’s on Freeport back in 2010 when I was at Sac City College but one day I was walking down S street and I had an “edible” that kicked in pretty hard and needed a place to sit. Off in the distance (2 blocks from where I was standing) I saw people sitting outside with food and beers and I decided to check it out. I entered the cozy interior and to my surprise there was no line! I ordered the Lock Down and a 24oz Pabst. I sat outside in the sun slowly sipping my beer before I had realized it had been 30 mins! I must have been pretty baked. I went inside to check on my sandwich and was informed that the guy taking orders had to run to pick up some produce. I told them what I ordered and they grilled it up and looked like they threw in some extra cheese because it looked awesomely gooey. After the first bite I realized that I had just discovered my new favorite sandwich. I was very happy. The guy who took my order returned from the store and apologized profusely for the mix up and gave me a free Lone Star beer! I now go here anytime I have the chance to grab a lockdown and a beer. I wish I could give them an extra star for being a great place to sit after a doob and people watch with a cold one...

I normally don’t like leaving a rating because I find it not worth putting my opinion, but I was a bit disappointed. I drive by this place everyday before work, and told myself one day I would love to go in there and try it out, the pictures look so yummy and delicious. So I went last Sunday, walked in and told the young gal. Sorry imma be awhile because this is my 1st time. She look over at me and didn’t say anything. I thought, or maybe I assumed she would help me. I wanted a sandwich and I step up and asked how big are they,?I guess it was a stupid question, because she gave me a look as if it was. Remind you I’ve never been so I thought sub sandwich, so that why I asked how big, I was thinking a foot long , anyway I wanted a sub sandwich and Instead I got a very, very soggy sandwich, the meat was good and it look good but it wasn’t what I expected. I really wanted to give this place high standards. Maybe I’ll go back. Idk! The gal wasn’t very helpful especially knowing I never been there and I guess I just wanted a little help. The lemon aid was one...

We ordered sandwiches to go, including our children practicing to make sandwich orders themselves at the counter. We were there when they opened and there was no one there waiting in line behind us, so there was no rush. When we opened our sandwiches later for a picnic, none of the sandwiches were made the way we ordered. They were all made the same with everything on them and drenched in mayonnaise and mustard. Very disappointing. There was no one in the shop so it was not like they were too busy and there was confusion. The guy who took our order even read it back to us and verified. But who ever made the sandwich just made it the way they wanted. It was like they didn’t care about our order and just made the sandwiches the way they wanted. We will not...
