If you join Choice Privileges and get the lowest club rate, then you simply cannot beat the value of this hotel any way you look at it. Firstly, it was miserably hot in Sacramento that day, and I need to walk for my exercise. So imagine my joy when, upon walking in, I get a blast of wonderfully-cool air. (I love it when hotels don't try to cut corners and hope you won't notice.) They got my reservation right and put in the location I requested. The staff is not just okay, but really sharp, and not just on one shift, but any time, day or night. They recognized my Choice Privileges status and gave me a welcome gift which included bottled water, which I needed due to the heat outside, (and there were smaller free ones in the room). The soaps and towels and pillows and other amenities were all nice. There were no funny charges or sneaky add-ons, just plain honest dealing. When you get to the room, the air conditioning is not the usual computer thermostat oddities which never work and turn on and off in a labored and overwrought way, and then fail half the time or require hotel help. No. This air conditioner was small, but sharp, and it had one nob, blasting cold air or gently blowing cold air and a few other dial settings. I put it on blasting cold air. Within minutes the room was nice and cool. Instead of the miserly Comcast offerings, they had Direct TV with about 300 channels. And no funky old television, but a nice, large flat screen, but one you could hear. I'm half deaf and wear hearing aids, however, without hearing aids, the sound was clear enough that I could catch most of the action with the volume only just above a third the way up. The bed was really sharp and comfortable and offered good support and good padding. Capitol Park is just a fabulous neighborhood, compared to many of the scary places around town, so the location is really convenient for those coming to get you by car and/or those wanting to be close to the political or business action, and close enough to walk to the tourist action if you can handle a mile-long walk, (and if not, the light rail and buses all go within a couple blocks of there to anywhere important ranging from downtown to clear out to Folsom. The clerks in front had good advise on directions, restaurants, or, I suppose, whatever one would need. While I did not have breakfast there, you could see the breakfast area on the bottom floor of the atrium, and it looked really sharp. Oh, I must mention the courtyard. What a great, sweet courtyard with a large atrium-style roofing, which serves as a massive skylight. The carpets are clean and most of the details solid. I was...
Read moreI have good reason to believe that the housekeeping staff stole property of mine.
The hotel will probably take this down but I'm going to at least try. My wife and I went to a local brewery for dinner and brought back a 4-pack of a special beer as a gift for a friend. After checking out we walk to breakfast but soon realize we forgot to pack the cans. So my wife calls the front desk to explain that we forgot some beer in the fridge, asked if they could please hold them for us and we'll pick them up when we're finished eating. The attendant says sure no problem. Back at the hotel when we're getting the cans one of them is missing. I notice immediately and ask "where's the fourth can?" She says that's what she was given from the housekeeping staff. Both my wife and I are 100% confident that we purchased a 4-pack not a 3-pack. There is no doubt in our minds. I know because the brewery charged us for four and I carried them back to the hotel. The attendant and I eventually walk up to our room (#308) to search. The cans had a dark label, so maybe one popped out of the holder and rolled away? Though that's exactly what the holders are designed to prevent, but whatever who knows? I look all over the floor and don't find the missing can. Then her and I go speak directly with the housekeeping lady who then said that "it was open so I had to put it in the trash." WHAT? I couldn't believe what I heard. I should have insisted to see the empty can in the trash and not left until we found it. I will always be upset at myself for not standing my ground. I never opened any cans in the room, again because it was a gift. Also, that means it was open while in the holder and didn't spill...?? The cleaning lady LIED STRAIGHT TO MY FACE. Because either (1) she took it while cleaning the room but before the front desk called to say we're coming back or (2) she took it when the front desk said there's beer in the fridge. If it was the first one, maybe she thought it was a juice or something and opened it, took a sip, didn't like it because it was an IPA, and tossed it. If she'd have been apologetic I would have been okay with that, because that would have been an honest mistake. Sure my wife and I messed up by leaving stuff behind after checking out, but to LIE and cover it up is not okay. Either way, she knew that she would get in trouble (or perhaps fired) if the can was discovered, so saying was "open" was just her way to try and get out of it. Fine room but this really...
Read moreA previous guest reviewer recently termed this hotel a “wonderful gem.” I would have agreed before my watch was stolen from my room. I’ve been a business traveler for over 30 years and have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the country. I have never complained about or complemented a hotel stay. My needs are simple, clean and quiet room. I stayed at the Inn Off Capital Park for five nights in late March 2015. My stay was uneventful until the morning of the last full day when I inadvertently left an expensive Hamilton wrist watch on my desk in the room. I didn’t realize my mistake until halfway through the business day when I looked at my wrist for the time and suddenly realized my watch was not there and then remembered on the desk in my hotel room. When returning to the hotel later that day, I immediately searched my room, all my possessions, and even my rental car. The watch was gone. I went downstairs and notified the guest services clerk who said she would search the housekeeping room. The watch was not found and I was then told to complete an incident report. The guest service manager contacted me a few days later and said that another search of the room, as well as interviews with housekeeping staff, failed to turn up the watch. The case was closed with no apologies. I accept full responsibility for leaving my watch on the desk of my hotel room. I normally do not keep valuable possessions out in the open, and only left the watch on the desk because I had planned to put it on in the morning and simply forgot as I was rushing out of the room to an appointment. What was disconcerting was the fact that an employee of this hotel stole my watch and, therefore, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I will never stay in this hotel or any of its affiliates...
