We went tonight during restaurant week, but none of us ended up ordering off of the special restaurant week menu. Regardless, our experience overall was disappointing. Nothing was priced outrageously, but the food and service left a lot to be desired. For entrées we ordered the swordfish, regular goat cheese raviolis with prosciutto (not the restaurant week special) and the shrimp scampi. Both of the pastas were basically floating in oil. The raviolis had a great light, pillowy texture and the roasted tomatoes were a great accompaniment, but the oil it was all floating in was a huge turn off. The swordfish was good even tho the flavors were unbalanced. However, mine came without the white beans. The server corrected the mistake, but then proceeded to apologize to my friend across the the table and offered to comp a dessert. She never once apologized to me nor did I order a dessert. I guess the free dessert was good for the table, except for the fact that the Baked Alaskan was coated with marshmallow creme instead of meringue.... The servers didn't clear wine glasses for those not drinking wine and seemed to clear plates haphazardly, missing empty glasses and used silverware. I love the space and the ambiance. The place has potential. I am not sure if service and food would be better if it wasn't restaurant week, but I will not be recommending this place or going back...
Read moreMy daughter and I had breakfast and lunch at the Citizen today since we stayed at the hotel for an event. If I was rating on just breakfast, I would have given 5 stars across the board. The service was top-notch, and the food was great. I ordered the Greek yogurt parfait and the steel cut oatmeal and really liked them, although I couldn't finish it all. My daughter had the All American, and everything was done just right. We decided to try lunch there as well (1140am). It didn't fail, but after the great service we received in the morning, it was a bit lackluster. It took a while after we were seated to have a server come, approximately 10 mins. No water or drinks during that time. Also, while hard to pinpoint, the servers' overall demeanor felt off like we were a bother. I did think maybe she was the only server at that time, but since it was slow, I still didn't understand the delay. The food did come quickly once our order was taken. My daughter had the double stack burger, which I also tried. It was a good burger. I thought the fries were great!!! I had the Angus tacos, and unfortunately, they were kind of bland. Individually, the ingredients were good and cooked/done appropriately. They just needed some spices/flavor. I would definitely come again. I'd just get something different for lunch. Probably the fries I...
Read moreThe food was decent but not great and the service was spotty. Honestly even if the service had been stellar I wouldn't come back. The food won't kill you or disgust you but there is MUCH better food less than a block away in downtown St. Paul.
Service: I had to put in an order 3 separate times since the server kept coming back to tell us they were out of what I had ordered. Then even though I had ordered after everyone else my food came significantly before everyone else's. I had ordered a small plate (not an app) and a side and my side didn't come with my meal but came with everyone else's food.
Food: I honestly forgot to take pictures of most of it and while it was presented in a fancy or 'foody' formatt the taste just didn't match. In fact I would say that in trying to have an out of the box presentation some of the food was difficult to eat. The fish for example was served in a bowl, so it was difficult to eat with a knife and fork. The steak was overcooked (and late to the table) even though it was ordered...
