Really wanted to like this place coming back from the west coast where I couldn't even get a vaguely edible sandwich that wasn't Jersey Mike's (which tells you how bad it was).
When I first moved here I liked this place, however as my taste buds have gotten higher standards since being back... I don't see the appeal of this place anymore. The prices are high, sandwich looks worse than subway (look at the photos, even the ones they've shared), $15 bucks for a full sub that's mostly toppings and 2-3 slices of meat. Also super drenched in condiments which can be good, but not good when the sandwich is mostly bread and toppings.
I can get a sub at Mazzaro's for 11-12 bucks that could make 10 subs from this place, and an even better sandwich from DeCosmo's for a similar price that could make 12 subs from here on real Italian bread.
The presentation is super odd, minimal amount of meat and 1 slice of cheese wrapped around a bunch of soggy toppings, then placed on a top of a roll (I will say the bread is good! And you don't need to toast bread that's good to make a good sandwich, especially when the meat/cheese is cold).
If you're looking for a real east coast sub, you're not gonna find it here, but if you like their style and you enjoy the food this is probably a great spot! My standards growing up in NJ/NY have blinded me. If the prices was halved I would give this a better review, but the quality/quantity isn't up to snuff.
3/5 for the whole experience, 1/5 for the sandwich presentation and construction, everything else is just fine. Nothing to write home about. If you've never been to a real deli/sub shop in the NE the food is great, but when I see "subs" in the name of a business I expect better and cheaper if...
Read morerecently learned of Gateway Subs after working nearby and getting hangry, upon going in you are greeted with happy faces, good smells and a overall peaceful happy atmosphere.
Everything is prepared Infront of you and the meats are sliced fresh in front of you đ€€ The way in which the entire team came together to make sure our orders flowed easily was incredible to watch, definitely a well oiled machine.
Okay okay enough about the amazing staff and cool atmosphere let's get to the business đ€€đ€€
The bread is some of the tastiest freshest I have been able to find for a good sub in quite some time. The meats, cheeses, veggies are dressings are delicious and make you wish you could muster eating the whole sub until you realize you still have to work and can't just take a nap.đŽ
It is nice to see a business that is thriving doing things the right way, good food, good people and great prices.
They are one of the few places that don't grumble and groan because you asked for a specific Sub they will let you make it YOUR way!!
If you're anywhere in the neighborhood and craving a good sub head to Gateway! If you're a foodie who just needs to try the best in the biz well now you know...
