Seriously the WORST sushi place on island. Everytime they mess up my order. Adding tobiko which i hate to a roll that doensnt SAY IN THE MENU it comes with it. Then forgetting an ingredient another time i went THAT CLEARLY STATES IT COMES WITH IT. Then arguing with me about it! The sushi chef isnt even gracious when yiu bring it to his attention. He gives an attitude and the customer service is awful!! Tge ambience is beautiful but the menu is boring! They interchange maybe 5 ingredients. Not creative or fun or exciting. For such a beautiful place they need to update their menu and their "sushi chef". Oh not to mention theyre the most expensive on island. Especially for the less than mediocre sushi and service they deliver. Its pretty much a tourist trap bc of its central location.
LITERALLY ANY OTHER SUSHI PLACE IS BETTER THAN HERE!
Ive been here three times and every time its same issues. I will neverrrr be back.
Youre better off going across the street to china express. Not as nice of an ambience as beni iguanas but its worth it for the sushi and the price. Raw is also a sexy lounge. But the best sushi on island is enkai. Its a drive but its on the water and their sushi rolls are so creative and the staff is soooo friendly. Plus u get an ocean view
I warm u. Do not waste your money at this aesthetically pleasing place. Looks are DEFINITELY DECEIVING. Three times over theyve proved it.
Oh and their rolls are so big, you will look like a chipmunk eating. Forget about this place if you're going on a date. Sushi should be sexy. And bite size portions. You can barely get the whole piece in your mouth.
They also didnt put soy sauce in my to go.
Dont know the chefs name. Young Black guy. Works during day. Rude. Obviously annoyed AT HIS MISTAKES!!
same sushi chef every time. The asian day time water doesnt check on you, even though we were literally the only people in the restaurant. SURPRISE SURPRISE.
Im doing this so other people dont have bad experiences and waste their money like I've done 3 times.
Lesson learned. If youre looking for the best sushi on island, look no further than enkai. One look at their menu will have your eyes lighting up, and an excitement mixed with curiosity bc their rolls are unique! Wow, worthy
I eat sushi 3-4 times a week. Trust me, i...
Read moreSo let me start off by saying that I only added Beni's to my list of good places to eat in St. Thomas because of their world famous mussels & iguana sauce. If you eat anything other than the mussels, iguana sauce or drinks, you have been warned.
The size of the sushi, is impressive. Forget the chopsticks, you'll need tongs to eat them with. It's like they are trying to overwhelm you with rice, to justify the value you are getting with their insane prices for rolls ($16.50-$19.50 for rolls?!) You're not going to get the presentation you're used to stateside. Not only are the rolls large, but they are not well rolled so they fall apart easily. It's like you should just mash everything up on your plate, pour some iguana sauce on it and eat it with a fork. Freshness is also not the best. I hate it when my fish is fishy, you know that "its been sitting out too long" taste, its just nasty. We've tried the Big Bill Roll (ahi, hamachi and avocado), Dynamite Roll ( Spicy crab and scallops with tobiko) , and Rainbow Roll (ahi, salmon and crab with avocado), and I wouldn't honestly order any of them again.
The Beni Inguana sauce on the other hand, disguised a lot of the bad taste. It's a sweet miso sauce and I got a small container of it to go. Its fantastic on grilled chicken, perhaps, that's something they could add to the menu?
Now moving on to the best part of this place, the world famous mussels. Absolutely amazballs! They even serve two mussel in each shell so you're getting 12 of them. They are steamed perfectly and are covered in the warm beni iguana sauce....drool!
Customer service is four stars, employees here hustle for their $$$, and when cruise ships are not docked, its like a private dinning experience. Ambiance is pretty cool, its got an japanese trendy theme going on, especially at night.. All in all I'd come here for drinks and those mussels as an app and move on afterwards to another restaurant at Havensight for...
Read moreService is 50/50. Both waiters were nice. One was pro and the other was nice but untrained. Truthfully, we were at Matsuhisa in Aspen the week before and the waiters were nicer than the arrogant jerk we had there.
The atmosphere is a little bizzaro. The benches are made of husky tool boxes? Strange for sushi decor. However, the place was clean and well organized, just felt like a funky 80's movie.
We were a little grossed out because one of the sushi chefs was eating when we arrived. He was eating finger food and then proceeded to make our rolls without washing his hands. That's really not cool. He seemed a little under the weather and coughed over the sushi station later in the evening. Eww.
It is seems pricey but the size of the rolls seems fair. The quality of the rolls we had were fair. Again, we just ate amazing sushi so it probably isn't real fair but on a 10 scale, I'd give it a 6.
The sushi rolls came out super fast. So that's definitely a plus. The gratuity is extra weird and pushy. Its clearly marked everywhere that they include it, which is nice. But it's over the top. It was a little slow getting the bill and paying but they got busy right after we got here.
We will truthfully try again in the daytime when it's brighter. They have a couple other things I want to try on the menu I'm curious about, like the fish and chips. I guess it kinda goes with sushi but not really. Makes sense for the location of the restaurant though and people who would likely...
