I had been really wanting to try this place and I will say food wise, they nailed it, but a few things left my friend and I disappointed.
I was there last Friday night and when we walked in it was a bit smoky. My friend and I really wanted to try to food though so we were sat and figured the smokiness wouldn't be a huge deal or would go away. We ordered 2 mocktails. I will say...the mocktail menu was on point. I don't drink alcohol and seeing such a great mocktail menu made me so happy. I got the Granny Jalapeno and wow, was it good!
When it came to ordering food, we had looked at the online menu before arriving and my friend who is gluten free really wanted to try the pozole which did not show "out of stock" at the time. The waiter said it was a special that was no longer available. Having the online menu be accurate I think is important. They also don't have gluten free bread which is surprising considering how many sandwiches they have. My friend got a chicken ceasar salad and I got the Cheka Chimi. Both were very very good.
We were the only ones at the restaurant besides two people at the bar and it took 35+ minutes to get our food which isn't a huge deal as I know it's all made from scratch, but during that time our waiter did not visit the table to give us an update on the food and with the smokiness of the room we began to suffer as our eyes were really burning. After we got our food a group of 4 came in with a reservation and I overheard them complaining about how the physical menu was shorter than the one online, so I know this wasn't just an issue we had.
Again, food was great, but maybe a better ventilation system is needed? Also, people do tend to plan what they are going to get before heading to a restaurant especially if they have certain restrictions so making sure the online menu is accurate...
Read moreSlow service, ran out of items, could not make substitutions, and was extremely expensive for lunch. We were visiting Salem for the first time and wanted to find a restaurant that was not touristy. This is a quaint tiny restaurant in a cute neighborhood and the food was good.It would’ve been better if we didn’t have to wait over 45 min to get our food. And they didn’t have run out of items an hour after opening. I ordered an Iced Tea, waitress apologized and said they already ran out and weren’t planning on making more. Then rattled off the items they ran out of. My daughter asked if they could make a substitution and not include blue cheese dressing on the popcorn chicken, which we were told “no”…which made no sense, especially since item is just laid on top of dressing. I guess it would have ruined presentation. Restaurant was clean, except the fly hanging out around us. The ventilation was bad as well. If you’re going to cook bacon, make sure the vent is turned up. Our eyes were burning from the bacon smoke and when the air was clearing another batch went on the griddle. Don’t go in a rush or if you want to see more of downtown Salem. This was a time suck and I am pissed we went by the number of Stars..,they get 1 star because the...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Maitlind Farms in Salem, and we’re still talking about the experience. This cozy, family-run restaurant is the kind of place that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. You can tell there’s a lot of heart behind everything they do—from the warm, welcoming service to the thoughtfully crafted menu.
What really sets Maitlind Farms apart is their commitment to locally sourced ingredients. Every dish we tried was bursting with freshness and flavor, clearly made with care and quality in mind. Whether it was the Chicken Parm, the seasonal vegetable sides, or the Cuban sandwich, everything tasted like it came straight from the farm—because it practically did.
It's rare to find a spot where the food, atmosphere, and people all come together so perfectly. If we lived nearby, we’d be regulars without a doubt. Salem is lucky to have this place, and we can't wait to come back next time...
