I think this place has the potential to be good but was disappointed with my visit this morning. I ordered drip coffee, a matcha tea latte, a chocolate croissant and a scone with clotted cream and preserves. I had everything ordered to go.
It took more than 15 minutes to get my matcha latte and it was lukewarm. When the server brought my drink, there was other food and drinks on the tray. I’m guessing they were trying to serve all the food and drinks as one drop off so my drink may have just been sitting once it was made. I had to warm it up at home because it was not quite hot but not at that point of being completely cold. My croissant came to me burnt on the top. I had to take part of the top off since it was burnt (like black flakes all across the top). It definitely was under a salamander too long when heated up. In addition, the scone was supposed to have currants in it. Mine had like 4 small currants on the bottom. None were inside as I ate it. When the server had passed by another table to serve the same item, there were currants all over the top, so definitely there’s a lack of consistency.
I’ve worked in food service for many years working my way up to a managerial position. I think this place has a nice vibe. There just needs to be better timing and organization with food and drink.
Not sure if I’ll be back...
Read moreCafe 140B is a charming breakfast and lunch spot that could be one of the best in SLC. However, I left more than a little disappointed after my visit today and I will share my six concerns. 1. The menu is great but when hot food is delivered to the table cold then it just isn’t as good as it could be. 2. Pricing is really high for what you get. 3. Service was poorly timed as two avocado toasts were served over 15 minutes after the Johnny cake. 4. Being given 18,20 and 25% tip options when all that the server did was deliver a plate seems excessive. We had to clear our table from the group before, get our own silver, and self serve water was never found. 5. I love dogs and often bring mine for patio seating where allowed. However, I don’t think indoor pet seating is legal in SLC and they sure didn’t act like other trained service animals I have known. 6. It was a chilly day and the two workers kept leaving the doors opened when they went outside. I understand the need to come and go with a tray. But just walking away from a wide open door will chill the small seating area to the point of discomfort when it is 35 outside. I had to either ask the staff to close the door or do it myself on...
Read moreTruly one of the best cafes I've been to in Salt Lake City. Everything about my experience from the food, service, and ambience was perfect.
Starting off this cafe is in the cutest little side building next to the Ellerbeck Mansion which is absolutely gorgeous. The cafe is super cozy and quiet.
Now the food was out of this world. I cannot stress enough that you have to try the brulee French toast! The avocado toast had unique flavors and the chai latte had the perfect amount of cinnamon spice. We completely cleaned our plates because everything was so good!
The service was amazing and everyone was so kind and welcoming. Other patrons were also very kind and were willing to chat as well. You can tell this is a favorite place for the locals of the neighborhood.
Overall, one of the best breakfast experiences I've had. If you have a chance definitely check...
