The Kimball exceeded our expectations. Location is incredible for walking to so many sites and venues within 20 minutes: museums, State Capitol, (Mormon sites - Temple, Tabernacle, Genealogy Library, Conference center with Tabernacle Choir, Restaurants, Grocery Store, and other shopping at a huge and beautiful downtown City Creek Center. We are not Mormon but we really enjoyed the daily free organ recital at noon at the Tabernacle and the free Choir rehearsal on Thursday evenings. We also really liked the free Pioneer Museum which is a 7 minute walk. Only a 45 minute drive to numerous outstanding ski areas and other parks. The Staff was very responsive and helpful. Our unit was clean and in excellent condition - we were on the fourth (top) floor south side with an excellent view of the downtown Temple Square area. I would suggest asking for an upper floor. Nice spacious one bedroom unit with full kitchen. Minor complaints that relate to dated appliances - exhaust fan extremely loud and dishwasher did not clean the dishes. I saw some complaints about old building smell but we did not experience that. It is difficult to avoid some steps to get to check in desk from the elevator and to our room - fortunately we are in our 70s in good health and doing a couple sets of 3 or 4 steps was not an issue. There was always parking available (we are not sure yet whether we get charged). The building is not some sparkling new place but it is well maintained, neat and clean. Salt Lake City is clean, felt safe and has a beautiful downtown. If you are from a lower elevation remember this city is at 4200 feet above sea level. I felt it walking uphill and up stairs so I just went a little slower. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend...
Read moreImportant: as a 20+ year owner, I strongly recommend that you do NOT buy timeshares here or elsewhere! Timeshares are a financial trap! The negatives, especially the ever increasing fees, offset any advantages of timeshare ownership. I cannot give my timeshares away, and my children do not want them. I wish, I had been warned!||||Regarding this facility: the location is good near most of the points of interest in downtown SLC, having free parking and a small kitchen and coin operated laundry facilities available are nice. The negatives: (despite all of the money being collected from timeshare owners) the furnishings in the unit we had were dated / worn (for instance, all the table tops were damaged), the only amenities on premises are an exercise room, a hot tub, sauna and a lounge area. The facility is staffed only a few hours a day. (If you have a problem outside those hours, you have to call for help). We were here on an RCI timeshare exchange, and were assigned a suite on what was called the first floor, although it was mostly below ground. Our windows were high, giving us a view of the walls of the concrete window wells and the legs of people walking by. These ground level windows are probably the dirtiest I have ever seen in a facility of this type. (Again, where are all the timeshare and rental fees being spent?) The building seems to be an old hotel that has been converted to suites. Be forewarned, if you are physically challenged, there are a lot of steps. There was no outdoor space to use, not even a bench, on...
Read moreThe biggest highlight of The Kimball for me was the location. This hotel is perfectly situated between the Utah State Capitol and Temple Square, with downtown just a short walk away. It made my entire trip easier knowing I did not have to rely on my car. It is also right next to major bus lines and the TRAX light rail, which I used often.
I really enjoyed the spacious bathroom in the room. It had a separate little room for the toilet, two full-sized sinks, and a tub with a great shower.
Another standout feature was the full-sized kitchen. I had never seen one like it in a hotel at this price range. We made great use of the refrigerator, toaster, and microwave. There was also a full stove, oven, and even a dishwasher, although the appliances looked like they had seen better days.
The service was good and I have no complaints about the staff. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and helpful.
However, my biggest issue with the room was how dated it looked. The furniture and decor felt like something from the 1970s or 80s, similar to what you might find in an older relative’s home. The room also had a strong old smell that lingered and was noticeable every time we walked in.
Even so, I would still recommend this hotel to anyone visiting downtown Salt Lake City, especially if you are on a budget. The location is excellent and, in my opinion, better than the bigger branded hotels a few blocks south. I especially appreciated having a full kitchen. Just be aware of the one hundred dollar deposit and the...
