Awesome. Located to the right of Utah's Capitol Parking Lot is a valley. There is a footpath that lead you down into the valley and into the manicured Park complete with Pavilions and a pond. I believe it is the best tucked away scenic forested Park in Salt Lake City. Today it was livid with fall colors. The bright yellow Aspen leaves and the deep Reds and Browns. When you come to the end of the park it's not the end of the park continue through the gate that says no motorized vehicles loud and you can walk for another one mile along the river and it is beautiful. I rode one of the spin electric bikes through the entire Park from one end to the other and it was spectacular. There is a Korean War Pavilion and a meditation Pavilion and please take the time to walk up to them and take a look they are wonderful. I served in Korea and it was a solemn moment for me. The meditation Temple is a must-see. The pond and waterfall helps with the meditation. It is quiet and secluded. Currently Salt Lake City Utah is overrun with homeless people. It is so intense in some places that you feel unsafe in the Parks. Not this park. It is removed from the downtown area and sequestered in a deep valley. That said it is still close to downtown it's just that it's all uphill and if I were homeless and I didn't have a car I would never venture to this area because it's all uphill until you get to the valley. It is so quiet and Serene. I'm going to return tonight because they have old fashioned lights that blind the park I want to see what the park looks like at night. The Capital Hill area has many old and elegant homes and the entrance to the park has several of them. This is such a very special place I wish I had known about it sooner. There are benches spaced out throughout the park and they are very comfortable. Go now and visit the park and watch the Fall colors you will not regret this trip downtown up by the Capitol building. If you're facing the front of the capitol turn right and go to the very edge of the parking lot with the trees are look down in the valley and you will see the park take the footpath which leads you down into the park. If you have a dog this is a dog's Wonderland. If you like hiking there are many trails. If you like biking or electric biking this is the place because there's no cars. Or if you like a quiet place to read a book or have a picnic with a friend then this...
Read moreTook a walk of discovery and mindfulness on Memory Grove Park on 10 May 2024. It was still a bit chilly in the morning but jackets were off by 11am. Walking with several veterans from the Salt Lake Region, we found great meaning in both the memorials and in the beauty of the grounds.
This is a walking Park with sidewalks and well worn paths along the creek and up the hills. Cars are discouraged by the locked gate at the park's South entrance. Bicycles are allowed on the roadway but not the nature path.
This was an exceptional day to visit. Partly cloudy, relatively peaceful with birds singing and the creek gurgling. We were extremely fortunate to find the Meditation Chapel open to public tours. This beautiful chapel built in the 1940's by a family whose pilot son was lost at sea. Located in the center of the memorials, the chapel has four exquisite stained glass windows, one for each branch of WWll service. The chapel is surrounded by markers in memory of other service members who never returned.
FAQs There is no parking in the park. There is limited street parking before the park entrance. Parking is also available at the West (next to the State Capitol) and East tops of the canyon Dogs are allowed and frequent. Most dog owners were responsible. I only saw 2 instances where they were not.
There are several memorials worth exploring. Many are not well documented and an on line self guided tour would be a great addition (assuming it doesn't exist)
There are no picnic facilities or playgrounds at Memory Grove but there are nice lawns and the rushing creek.
The Meditation Chapel is currently open about 10 days off the year for a couple of hours each. We doing the host to be incredibly knowledgeable. She brought out...
