One of the best fast food Greek places in the Salt Lake area. They've been opening new locations all over the Salt Lake valley, and each is pretty good. This downtown location is a bit older, and the seating can be tight around lunchtime, but I've always been able to find a seat over the years. The service knows what they're doing, as it doesn't seem like they have a lot of turnover. Still, it's just a fast food place, so you don't tip, and they don't do a lot more than take your order.
Most people get gyros (year-rows), and Greek Souvlaki does a fine job with those (American pallettes seem to really like the Philly cheese gyro). I prefer souvlaki, which is essentially the Greek word for shish kebabs. The seasoning is unique and quite tasty, although at least one of my friends said he's not a big fan of the flavor. You can get chicken or pork. The chicken is always juicy; I find the pork a bit dry. Try getting it with lemon rice instead of fries. It's tastier and much healthier. I think Yanni's might have better lemon rice, but Greek Souvlaki's is pretty good.
The warm dolmathes (beef, rice, lemon juice, spices, wrapped in grape leaves) are unique and great, especially with cool tzatziki sauce (Greek yogurt & shallots).
The Greek salads are huge and quite good as well. They serve the Americanized Greek salad (i.e., it comes with lettuce), but the tomatoes, kalamata olives, cucumbers, and feta are always fresh.
In Fall/Winter they serve lentil soup, and it is very, very good. The lemon chicken soup (based on the Greek avgolemono) is also quite good, and they serve that year round.
I'm not sure where they get their pita bread, but it is really good too. Baklava is typical philo dough style, although a fine treat for the price.
If you like Greek food and don't mind fast food, you should definitely give Greek Souvlaki a try. If you're looking for something more fancy, try Aristo's (also very good), but expect to pay...
Read moreUPDATE: I was disappointed this last time around. I felt very buckled & dined. For a tiny container of extra white sauce was $1.08 same goes for the fry sauce & any other sauce. They asked me what I wanted with my salad & I told them the Greek yogurt dressing & when they brought me my salad they brought me a different one, but when I told them about it they said it would be $1.08 despite me telling them the mix up. When I finally gave in & said just give me ranch he again turned back to the register but sighed & went & got me a tiny ranch & still looked like he wanted to charge me. There were a few minor other things but the dressing & sauces were really annoying. Good food, bad customer service.
PREVIOUS: I was pleasantly surprised by this little place in SLC. I was feeling like Greek food, & though that’s not my normal thing when I make a trip to Salt lake for an appointment or for any occasion I saw this place on the list of places near me & even though it didn’t thrill me I thought I’d give it a chance. It didn’t have a Ton of options but it had all the basics & a little more. The food was really tasty & very split-able if that’s something you like, like me. Quite not too busy. Maybe not the upscale restaurant in the middle of downtown but if you just want some good Greek food I would...
Read moreI have been looking forward to checking it out for several months now, but I always forget about it because it is a block over from where I stay. Today I actually thought about it and went to get some food to take to the office to work on the computer. First thing that was off was my oder. I ordered pork souvlaki and they brought out chicken. The guy literally input it wrong, but after waiting for 10 minutes or more, I had stuff to do. I also ordered a large coke since I knew that I would be at the office without anything else to drink. As I picked it up, it was a little more than half full. Are you kidding me? How lazy were they to wait for a few seconds for the foam to go down to fill it up. I didnt complain about the order because I was annoyed and wanted ro get to work. To top it off, the chicken was dry with very little flavor. The strong flavor of Greek food is why I went there to begin with. I was very disappointed and will not...
