This is great venue for concerts - there's plenty of space and the sound is always great. There are usually some food trucks/food vendors there with good food. The reason for the 3 stars is because the vendors/bands are amazing to experience down there, but whoever is in charge of running the show makes it nearly impossible to enjoy yourself. First of all, gates opened at 5:30 and they also had the 1st band start right at 5:30 so hundreds of people who were lined up around the block missed the first band while they waited in a mile long line to get in the one entrance they had open. If they were going to start the first band right at 5:30, they should have opened the doors earlier. Then once you got inside, after the 1st band was completely done playing, in order to get a beer you had to stand in 3 different lines. One line to get a wristband, another line to buy beer tickets since the beer stands wouldn't take cash, and a 3rd line to actually get your beer. Then, if you got too many beer tickets and didn't drink that many beers, you're out your money and also if you wanted another beer and didn't have a ticket, you go back and wait in line again to get more beer tickets, and then the beer line. There's got to be a better way to do this, it's ridiculous. I don't know that I'll go to another show at the Gallivan Center after this experience. I do like food truck Thursdays and other events they hold there, but if this is how concerts go, I won't be...
Read moreLooking for something fun to do in the winter? Hit up the Galliano Center Ice Skating Rink! It's seriously cool for both newbies and pros at skating. The ice? It's top-notch, so you'll be twirling or just chilling out there super smoothly.
The vibe is all about family and hanging out with the community—it's cozy and chill. There's enough room to skate without crashing into people, which is a big plus.
Need skates? They've got you covered with all sizes right there for rent, and they're in great shape too. But hey, if you're gonna be carving up the ice for hours, maybe bring your own for the best fit.
They've got your back when it comes to keeping it safe—with staff watching out for you and barriers all around. And if you do wipe out, someone's always there to help you get back on your feet.
The prices are pretty sweet, so you can swing by alone, bring a date, or make it a family affair without breaking the bank. Just a heads up, it gets packed sometimes, so if you're not down for a crowd, try going when it's quieter.
If you want to take a breather, the seating situation is a bit tight when it's busy, and the snack bar's good for a quick bite, but it's not exactly gourmet.
All in all, the Galliano Center is the place to be for awesome ice skating vibes and making some cool memories. It's a spot that's got it all for everyone to have a...
Read moreA fun wintery family activity. Concessions were a bit more lackluster than typical concessions, but had all of the expected items. My hot dog had a rock hard bun, which was a bummer especially for the price compared to a gas station. There is also limited covered seating, which wasn't a big deal to us but worth consideration for anyone wanting to watch their loved ones skate but not participate.
However, everyone was friendly, music was playing the entire time, they have bathrooms and lockers for rent, and the rink itself is fantastic. The rink has a metal hand rail around the entire thing except the entrance/exit gate, which made learning and building confidence much easier. The rails are short enough for my petite kindergartener to comfortably reach. Bring waterproof or water resistant gloves, as the hand rails get cold and often wet from wet gloves grabbing onto them.
We went during the day and had the rink to ourselves for a while (on a Sunday!) but my kids have been asking to go back, especially at night, multiple times...
