As someone who appreciates a quieter atmosphere, my visit to Water Witch left me with mixed feelings. While I understand that many patrons adore this establishment, I found myself grappling with certain aspects that might not have bothered me in my younger days.
Space Constraints: The first thing that struck me was the size of the place. It felt too small. The limited square footage made it challenging to move around comfortably.
Crowded Environment: Unfortunately, the cozy space way too crowded. The moment we walked in it was difficult to find a quiet corner to enjoy my time.
Drink Menu: Glancing at the drink menu, I noticed that the options were somewhat limited. While I appreciate simplicity, I wished for a broader variety of beverages to choose from.
Bar Noise: Attempting to engage the bartender proved futile due to the crowded bar area and the deafening music. Conversations were drowned out, and I couldn’t even inquire about specific drinks.
Outdoor Escape: Thankfully, Water Witch had a saving grace: a porch/deck space equipped with heaters. Stepping outside allowed me to escape the cramped interior and catch a breath of fresh air.
Smoking Area: Regrettably, this outdoor space had a downside: it was also the designated smoking area. As a non-smoker, this dampened my experience.
In summary, Water Witch has its merits, especially for those who thrive in lively environments. However, if you seek a more tranquil setting, consider timing your visit carefully or exploring the outdoor space. Just be prepared for a bit of cigarette smoke if you do...
Read moreBeen here twice, first time was great, so great we took the train back up to go here and walked 2 miles from City Creek. Strangest experience I've ever had.
Wife had a diet coke in a metal koozie, were told we cant bring an outside drink in. Understood, immediately started trying to problem solve since we didn't have a car to go put it in.
I took it and set it neatly in a corner off the premises, out of sight. Then when I walked back up got met with hostility and a "so you're just going to litter now" to which I said no way man, we'll grab it on our way out since we cant bring it in, letting him know I have no intention of littering (also was out of sight).
Offered instead to throw the coke out, and put the metal koozie by a trash can inside or outside wherever he wanted, and got a " well you're not littering and you're not bringing the koozie in either. "
Asked what I did to get met with hostility, got a blank stare, felt ridiculous at that point, so we walked over to TF. Maybe he wanted a koozie sacrifice, I would have been willing for the witch.
Friend we were with said he didn't have to be a jerk. Guess that got us all 86'd based on his recent review. I feel like I should have gotten a medal for how hard we tried to do what was told to us. True dedication.
Maybe we caught him at an off day, maybe he didnt like my face, maybe he's a pepsi fan. I'll give the benefit of the doubt here.
10/10 memorable experience, 10/10 confusion,...
Read moreWe were looking for a good drink spot to kill a bit of time, and luckily we were encouraged to try Water Witch by our waiter at Vertical Diner down the street (plus: you can walk to WW from VD!)
We walked less than 5mins to WW and found that the place was actually poppin' on a Sunday afternoon. Luckily, there was no line and open spots at the bar, so we were seated right away (they also have outdoor seating under a closed tarp, but I couldn't tell if there was heaters -- it was flurry-snowing that day).
Being able to sit at a bar and chat with the bartender is one of our fave things to do. It's another thing that COVID has made more difficult, so we were happy to be able to do this here!
We downloaded the menu with the QR code, but couldn't decide. Antonio behind the bar let us know that the bartenders are able to come up creative, improvised drinks if we were able to tell them a lil' of what we were hoping for, i.e. whiskey with citrus and tequila with citrus. The friendly female bartender made us a couple drinks that were quite refreshing and delightful.
The prices are surprisingly reasonable, and patrons were also surprisingly respectful (low talking volume). We had to keep our voices down for once! The ambiance is laidback and cool. I would totally come back for a date night (before or after dinner) or bring back some friends...
