Was excited to try the place out after many years of not coming here. Food came to us cold and tasted old and reheated.
And no, it was not a busy night. We went in the day during the week, there were a few tables but that’s all. The waitresses are lazy, gossiping with friends or twiddling their fingers while ONE waitress tries to serve all of the tables. Looking over to the kitchen, I could see the window was FULL with THREE ROWS of plates of food waiting to go out. No wonder our food was cold.
Food came out pretty quick so I was surprised that it tasted cold and old. Again it was probably stale food that was reheated.
We had three different servers and none of them checked on us, one brought us our drinks and quickly walked away. Another brought us our appetizer and again quickly walked away. Then same deal with our entrees. We had to keep flagging them down to ask for condiments, refills, etc. since they wouldn’t give us the chance when they came to our table. Messed up our order also as I asked for the toppings on the side and of course it was all on there.
Meanwhile the menu pricing is messed up because you can get a kids burger for 7.99 and it will come with fries/tots but the 1/4b burger is 9.99 and you have to pay extra for any fries or tots. Like what?
Ordered some nachos with beef and instead of ground beef like you’d expect it comes out with chopped steak but the steak tasted rancid and the beans were funky. The nacho chips were dark orange like they were burnt and tasted stale in some areas and bendy in others.
The ‘giant’ burgers are not what you’d expect. I hear 1/2lb, 1/3lb, 1lb patty and I expect a big stack of patties or a nice thick burger. But no. You get a smashed and spread out pancake of meat. Who wants a meat pancake ? Gross. The meat is nothing special either, doesn’t even seem to be seasoned. Best thing on the plate was tater tots and those were frozen at best.
On top of all of that, we got food poisoning and were sick to our stomachs within ten minutes of leaving. I won’t go into details but it was painful and gross.
Overpriced and overhyped this place is gross and needs to be shut down honestly. Had a terrible time before during and after eating here and will be telling everyone...
Read moreI kind of don't want to tell everybody how good their hot wings are in case they get wise and hike up the price, but they are fantastic and I'm like 99% sure they are cooked to order, and they are a screaming good deal. I've had both the crispy (breaded) and naked, and they're both great but the crispy are sublime.
I am sore tempted to individually chronicle each outstanding dish at this restaurant. I actually started to, but then erased several paragraphs when it quickly veered into tl;dr territory.
So I'll shorten things a bit by listing several standout items: the bean & cheese nachos, Armadillo eggs, Fiesta burger, chicken fried steak sandwich, and catfish plate are all among the best in the city. The CFS and catfish plates are also both fantastic deals. On a similar note, the hamburger from the kid's menu is a plain 1/3lb burger, so even older kids are likely to be satisfied with that.
Burgers are sold on their own. Of the sides, the tots are crisp and tasty. The fries are good but unremarkable. The onion rings are one of two things I'm not fond of. They're the wide kind, and the breading is always a bit tough. The fried pickles suffer from the same breading.
The atmosphere here is much cozier than at the newer location near City Base. It's quite an old building, though, so be aware that there's some "character" to it. Nothing is dirty or dangerous, but some things are a bit worn, and the lights dim alarmingly on occasion. There are several TVs turned to whatever sportsball happens to be occurring at the time. Volume is down. Music is largely provided by a digital jukebox as overpriced as these things are these days, but at least it's internet connected and the supply of music is basically inexhaustible.
Every time I have gone, service has been friendly and competent, if perhaps not...
Read moreThe food is great and came out fast/hot. Place is quiet even when busy.
Food: We ordered the 1/3lb cheeseburger, 1/2lb bacon cheeseburger w/added jalapeno. Small fried pickle appetizer (it is more than enough for three people) and a small side of fries (enough for both my husband and I). Coke and sweet tea (not too sweet which personally I enjoyed but I know most Texans will say "not sweet enough") meal - total $27.75. everything great, hot, and cooked just right.
Experience: My husband and I come here ever once in a blue moon. Usually we sit at the first corner booth along the wall. Once seated we are asked "drink and/or appetizer?" This time my husband decided to seat us in the last corner booth along the wall. Despite the fact the young man who told us where to sit... no one came to the table for 10 minutes. I had to get up and ask if we order in the front, they do not. They apologized of course. My problem was not the neglect of initial service but the fact that four different servers came to our table every three minutes to ask if we were okay.
Mouth full of food having to repeatedly give a thumbs up to different individuals. Who would even get a tip if I wanted to give one? (Left $2 would've left the usually $7-10) One young male server stood at the table too long and asked if we had any questions. I'm still a bit confused as to why he would ask that. (And yes we were still in the middle of eating while he stood over us)
Anyway, usually a decent normal experience. This time maybe because I'm pregnant...it left me a bit annoyed. Annoyed enough to leave this review.
This latest experience made me want to just order to go and eat comfortably at home. I guess... don't sit at the back corner...
