Henry, Oscar, Pete, Eddie and a few others choose to occupy an eponymous brand name position in the ubiquitous tex-mex market that represents a grande portion of the local restaurant landscape. Eddie's also has a doppelganger on the northeast side that is slightly more gentrified than the somewhat grittier, but comfortable near west side location and the trade off may be a bit better food downtown. Both restaurants can accommodate our nomadic appetite proclivities with drive thru windows. Eddie's does not offer free table chips, does not have fountain Coke, and charges a fee for non-cash transactions. The nachos, also not Libre, are decent when served in a timely manner (ours were not hot and had to be redone), the flour tortillas are fat, fluffy and begging to become part of the meal in any manner you happen to choose. Appropriately inflated corn masa was filled with fine grind picadillo and crowned with salad and grated cheese that formed a surrounding talus with the scree from each toothsome bite. The addition of green table salsa and a quick pass with the salt shaker caused that puffy and it's remnants to disappear toot sweet. Frijoles pooled in the plate adjacent to its long time partner, a goodly portion of light rust colored rice. The rice was the standout of the two. If enchiladas could sizzle like fajitas the two beef and cheese selections would have been smokin'. I prefer the presentation of molten entree temps as it gives one time to consume appetizers served a bit tardy without the main dish getting cold. When you come a knockin' the house may be rockin' with tunes belching forth from a current day "juke" box in the dining room.

12/7/23 I placed my order in the drive thru ... Mole enchiladas plate..she asks what kind of drink. ..after finally getting to the window she tells me no mole enchiladas on Thursday only Friday .so I ordered the green enchiladas plate ,she then proceeded to say that does not come with a drink. I said that's fine... first of all I don't know what you have on different days that's your job description to know the menu not wait for the customer to finally arrive at the window and let them know or ask them to order something else. While I'm waiting at the window she and the other woman are making jokes and being loud finally she turns around and gives me a number and tells me to park and my order will be ready just wait. I waited and waited finally I call the restaurant tell them what happened.. another lady tells me I will let the manager know. After minutes by know it's has been 20 minutes the sweet manager comes out looking for something or someone .he goes back in .I get my number they gave me and she tells me your order has been ready but the wrote the wrong number on your ticket the order # is 394 and they wrote 384 . How stupid are you? Then I get my ticket and my order did come with a drink but they never gave me the drink cause she told at the window" You order doesn't come with a drink Is that okay?" and I said yes that's fine. So I waited a total of 30 minutes And no drink Anddd the final thing...I said green enchiladas plate ...guess was incapable window lady gave me ....steak enchiladas ...I ended up just eating the rice and beans. What happened to good employees they had in the drive thru.

Today was my second time to Eddie’s Taco House. I’ve lived in San Antonio for 22 years and I just barely heard of this San Antonio jewel! This is true Tex Mex at its finest. I’ve had steak and enchiladas and carne guisada and enchiladas. The meat is so tender and flavorful and the enchiladas are just RIGHTEOUS! The cheese is so yummy (reminds me of the government cheese we used to eat when I was a kid). The servers are very attentive making sure your drink is always full. I’ve seen the biggest bowls of menudo I’ve ever seen served. I’ll have some when it gets cooler. My only complaints are, it’s a cash only establishment and chips and salsa are NOT complimentary. Parking is a little rough so your best bet is to get there before or right after peak periods. Eddie’s closes at 2pm so plan accordingly.

We ordered delivery, and it arrived hot, fresh, and about 10 minutes faster than the estimated time, which was very impressive and appreciated! However, that means we have no experience with what it is like to be served in person here, so we can't speak to that aspect at all.

Some people who have reviewed have dinged them for not being "Mexican." Look, most of the places in the area are Tex-Mex. There are Mexican places are around but you have to really look for them. It's not the restaurant's fault if you didn't. This is an excellent Tex-Mex place. Judge it for what it is.

Between 2 people, we ordered enchiladas, carne guisada, a puffy taco, and a tamal. The one star off of the 5 is due to the enchiladas. I am really, really picky about enchiladas, and I dislike the processed cheese that most restaurants use. On its own, I would not take a star off for that, because I know I am in a very small minority. I order enchiladas knowing what I am likely to get, but always hoping to find some I really love. But my husband also did not care for the cheese, and he is far less picky about that. In addition, the sauce didn't have much flavor to it. So they lose 1 star for that. Maybe the enchiladas are just not to our taste.

But everything else is excellent! I love carne guisada, and I order it regularly. This is the best I have had short of my husband's since Little Mexico on Zarzamora closed. (So, years. Yeah. Best carne guisada I have had outside the home in years!) Best restaurant carne guisada! It is red, flavorful, and falling-apart tender. I would be a repeat customer for this alone.

However, there is more. The rice was perfectly cooked, seasoned well, and did not have a bunch of other stuff in it. I am cool with carrots being in it, but not so much when a place loads it down with carrots, peas, and corn. Their rice is great, and I was very pleased with it.

The beans were thick, creamy, and seasoned perfectly, with a very pleasant smoky taste.

The tortillas were very hot, fresh, and soft. They were delightful.

My husband loved his puffy taco, tamal, and the green hot sauce. He was very pleased with the heat of the salsa, and that is something he is picky about. If he says he likes your salsa, that is something to be very proud of, and he would return based on that alone. It's hard to find a place with truly outstanding hot sauce.

I ordered a Mexican Coke, too. When it arrived, they had also provided a cup with ice and a straw for it. That was truly above and beyond, in my book!

This was the first time we had ordered food from here. It won't be the last, and we are likely to come in person at some point. But we'll bring cash -- we've seen the other reviews stating that they...

Had the worst experience of my life at this place!! First got seated Took My order Then I Noticed everyone around me was getting their food 30 minutes and still not receive our food . Asked the server how long more was gonna take. she said she didn’t know !! Finally received food So then get up to go and pay for my order. And use their ATM inside Lady in front of me said the ATM was not working that it had took out money out of her account but did not release the cash out of the ATM !! So therefore I didn’t attempt to use the ATM and manager came to try to fix it she said I will fix it and you can take out money so I waited another 30 to 45 minutes so she could fix it then I told her so what can I do I only have a couple of dollars on me your ATM is not working she stated will you will have to leave. Your credit card and your ID and come back and bring me the money to pay I told her I will not leave my identification behind so she proceeded to go outside and called their temporary Rent-A- cop and tell him that I was refusing to pay and me and my husband were just in shock we had never refused to pay we cannot pay them because the ATM was not working mind you we still were running late for an appointment so she proceeds to tell the temporary officer that we did not want to pay when the ATM was not working so he said that if we would leave he was going to detained us and arrested for petty theft and he was adamant and telling the manager that for her not to worry about it that he was going to detain us and arrest us if we would walk out mind you I have my 13-year-old daughter with me and telling the manager that for her not to worry because he was going to detained us we felt very bullied by the officer that was their !! And the officer there was telling Manager had told Us that we need to leave a Credit card behind and a ID . So the officer proceeded to tell me and my husband don’t you know that this is a cash only restaurant he said yes but that’s why they have an ATM inside for these types of issues The manager told us that it was brand new machine but it’s not working right now so I told her I only have $10 on me and cash my bill was only $20 And the officer said well I will arrest you for the $10 as petty theft !! Never again will I go back to that restaurant !! So they finally let my husband leave to go and take out money and...

I had a slip and fall in the bathroom about a year and a half ago and I casually told the cashier about my fall and to check the restroom floor because I fell bad she said I'm sorry about that please let us know how you are feeling so I said okay thank you and it didn't hurt right away but started hurting later on in the day and I just took the pain and it was bad I went the next day to talk to the manager Cassandra I told her what had happened and that I was in alot of pain and she told me we usually write an incident report that she should have done right there and then and told me to have my lawyer contact their lawyers because they didn't handle these things in house and sent me on my way I took this pain for a couple of more days and couldn't take it anymore so I went to the emergency room they found a fractured wrist and sprained ankle and recommended an MRI on my shoulder so we called a lawyer and they couldn't get through to Eddie's ppl to approve an MRI and this took long and they still didn't respond I didn't have medical insurance at the time, so I tried another law office and they had the same problem and dropped me cause my medical bills were not enough to open a case they said so I just recently was able to obtain insurance and finally got my MRI done I had a 50%+ tear in my left rotater cuff, I just had surgery March 18th 2025 and now it's going to be a 6 to 8 month recovery process with physical therapy and Miss Cassandra the management whom I spoke to didn't even show no concern for my injury like I was lying or something now look, this is permanent who do I need to speak to to get help for what has happened to me how many ppl has this happened too this is so wrong I have a very busy lifestyle and it's already been a struggle to take care of myself as it is.....and I've been suffering in pain all this time this happened...
