El Nogal Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in San Antonio

This place is a gem. Reminds me of the taco shops of my youth. Tasty tacos (especially the carne guisada), homemade corn & flour tortillas, and reasonably priced. Also, the tacos are always stuffed. They don’t skimp. This is a family owned local business.

Just a note on the carne guisada: I’d say they make exceptional carne guisada. The beef is always fork tender and they are large chunks of meat, not fat. The guisada is well balanced on the spice and not super thick or greasy. They add just the right amount of guisada....

I'm not one to waste money on Mexican food when I can make it myself much less on a bean and cheese taco but I have never tasted a bean and cheese taco that melts in your mouth. If you see or pass by El Nogal mexican restaurant you need to pop in and order one of the best bean and cheese tacos you will ever have..... I know it sounds weird because beans are beans but the flavor or the beans and the buttery cheddar cheese and the texture of the tortilla are a combo from heaven... Try it and judge...

I was out early in the day running errands and I had agreed to get some Mexican food for lunch and bring it home for myself and a lady friend to enjoy. I had no idea what I wanted and only a request for"something Mexican" which my friend was craving. But upon looking over the menu, I immediately made my choices from a variety of familiar favorites I have come to love that always leave me satisfied with a feeling of contentment. And the service was extremely fast and complete. A must try...
