I mean, it's Bill Miller's. A staple. Not stellar. Not bad. It is not quite a restaurant, and not quite fast food, more cafeteria type/short-order-cook type environment.
Today I wanted "something different". Went to Laguna Madre, ordered the Grilled Salmon. Takes a while as I don't think they sell enough to keep em cooking all the time, but I wont complain about speed when were talking about fish. I wouldn't want them to chance cooking some up and hanging on to them for an hour or three waiting for a customer. I can wait. Anyways, had to wait almost 15 minutes, but it was worth it. My buddy was just about finished with his popular fish and shrimp plate, that came really fast, before I could sit down.
The Rice that comes standard was TASTY. Probably bad for me. But it was good for my taste buds. Could stand to be some more of it for the price, though.
The Green Beans are a matter of personal taste, I am sure I could substitute something else... anyway, they cook em in some sort of tangy tomato juice broth. They're cool. Not my favorite, but I recommend everyone could stand to try them once and see if they like them before thinking about what to substitute on future visits. Again, though, if you're looking for something a little different from the typical fast-food lunch, they are a good one to try.
The Salmon. Well, first thing I thought was that it looked small. It all looked small for the 9.75 price of the Grilled Salmon plate vs the rest of the menu. BUT. Man was it good! AND, salmon fills you up more than you realize. I feel pretty good right now. They grill it with some kind of spice that gives it that down-home grilled texture that's not overpowering, but is enough to stand up to the flavor of such a savory fish as salmon. Try dipping the fish in the Green Bean/Tomato broth. That was nice too.
They also serve a warm slice of mild garlic bread.
My partner got their most popular fried fish and shrimp plate and liked it too. It was cheaper than my extravagant salmon, and he got it served up immediately thanks to it being all popular menu items that just fly out of the kitchen during lunch hour.
Overall, I recommend it. If you're gonna do fast food for lunch or a sub-sandwich, and you were gonna "go inside and sit down and eat", put Laguna Madre on your itinerary once in a while. Its a nice change from the same old burger and...
Read moreSo we're giving this place 4 stars. For a fast food seafood joint it was alright, however, depending on how much food you get it can get a little pricey, so I would suggest trying a real seafood restaurant for more bang for your buck. However, if you don't mind the style the food isn't bad. My husband and I liked different things. I had the fried shrimp, fried fish, fried oysters, with coleslaw and rice on the side. The fried shrimp was good. The fried fish was light and delightful. Coleslaw was the best in my opinion. The rice was good. Not a fan of the fried oysters. Along with the meal came a toasted piece of bread which was nice. Hubby had fried shrimp, fried fish, fried oysters, with a side of French fries and mac n cheese. He liked the fried fish, thought it had a nice lite flavor. He liked the fried shrimp. He loved the fried oysters. He thought the mac was tasty. However, the French fries were way too salty, they were unbearable to eat so he just threw them away. Toasted bread came with his too. We also got a side order of 2 fried crab cakes. They were also tasty. Loved the sweet tea. Hubby got a slice of apple pie. It was actually really good. At first I thought he ordered some crab meat slapped on a plate but it was a slice of apple pie, lol. My only problem with that is while it tasted good, presentation is always key, so the slice didn't need to look so sloppy and unattractive. The workers were really polite. Place was very clean. Better chairs could be in order they were somewhat uncomfortable. Love the look inside. The pictures and fish on the wall go with the theme nicely. The place is pretty big, there's good amount of seating but avoid certain times because it can fill up quickly. The menu is quite simple to pick and choose what you want. They have a kids menu for those with children. Not everything is fried, there are options for a healthier version. Yes, you can order to go, and there's a drive-thru. The place was a nice fast food seafood restaurant, however, it can be pricey and add up quickly, it's not too modest on the pocket book if you're going and getting a lot of food. Try it out, it's the sister company to Bill Miller BBQ, so if you're a fan of Bill Miller than you'll probably like this place. Would recommend at least...
Read moreWARNING DO NOT EAT HERE!!! I hate to do this because the couple times I have eaten here in the past the food was actually good but not the food I got Thursday evening. And while the manager was very apologetic and polite in his attempts to rectify the issues I had with my order, I would soon find out that it just wouldn't be enough to fix what I was about to go through.
Start off I went thru the drive thru n placed my order. Got to the window and was asked to park n they would bring my order out to me. When I arrive home n sit down to eat I immediately notice the heavy amounts of grease both in which my fish was drenched in as well as the soggy french fries that laid next to the fish. The bowl of coleslaw looked very unappealing but I reluctantly tried it and quickly decided that was a no too. I also attempted to eat the fish which I would soon find out would be a huge mistake. And I am forever ruined on hush puppies and will probably never eat another one EVER! Looked pretty from the outside but once bitten into it was clear that it was undercooked and I don't mean just a Lil in the center. Nope the entire center was mushy raw corn meal. Now idk about any of u but I have never eaten raw corn meal n I don't recommend it either. The taste and texture is OVERWHELMINGLY DISGUSTING!!! I called and the manager told me to come in whenever for a free meal replacement so I told him I would head that way n be there shortly. I soon found out that wasn't going to be going anywhere. HAVE YOU SEEN THE MOVIE BRIDESMAIDS? SPECIFICALLY THE PART WHERE THEY ALL GET SICK AT THE BRIDAL STORE??? YEP, IT WAS LIKE THAT!! However I wasn't laughing n I squatting in the street or up on a sink but you get my point. It had been approximately 45 mons from the time I ingested the food to when it hit n I hadn't had anything other then Laguna Madre in my stomach even the tea I drank was from there. Needless to say I never made it up there for my replacement order but to be honest THEY CAN KEEP THAT REPLACEMENT ORDER!! After what I had to go through for the 15 hours that followed was awful n so Laguna Madre I am gonna have to pass n bid u a goodbye for I will never return to eat at any of your locations...
