Love Luby's "Home style" American/Texan, food selections, especially the availability of "wheat" rolls, nowhere else... However, for some "unknown, mysterious" reason, I've been getting tough meat lately, with the baked chicken, more than once and now the other day, with the fried chicken, both white meat. Previously, the baked chicken was not cooked or browned on the outside (skin part) adequately, consequently "tough or rubbery," fried chicken had just come out, had a beautiful, crispy crust, was juicy, but strangely a little tough in some parts of the breast quarter.
This NEVER used to be the case at Luby's. Are they rushing too much with prep, perhaps not marinating the chicken to save on costs? I will say, I've encountered this recently in several restaurants not just Luby's, even grocery store purchased meat. Is something going on with the "meat" industry? I've purchased meat in recent months, that is normally, "naturally," not tough cuts of meat, like pork chops, chicken, spiral sliced/holiday hams, etc. H'mmm?
The veggies are good but very plainly seaoned, no diced onion or diced bacon, tomato, spices, etc. Flavor means everything! And, as has been the case for several years now, without the "use" of steam tables, Luby's food is "rarely" hot enough, just being totally sincere. To Go is no problem, I can always reheat in microwave, or revive, especially "battered" meats, in our air fryer! Chicken fried steak (beef cutlet), has been superb on multiple visits, no grissle, quality meat obviously, nice crispy exterior, best in town!
Cashier was and is always great, very courteous, not all are. And Homer, was extremely professional, pleasant, and consistently attentive, I REALLY appreciate that, OMG!
About a year ago, while waiting in line at the Fred Rd. location (inside Loop 410), for To Go plates on Thanksgiving Day, in conversation with the lady standing behind me, I discovered as she revealed, that the Walzem location had previously had a wonderful, excellent, "All You Can Eat Buffet," really? That was "NEWS" to Me, never, ever heard of that! Have you? If that's really true, PLEASE bring it back!!!
Finally, new, insulated, reusable cups in red or black for $9 are a great investment! Beautiful, quality designed and constructed cup, and when you bring it, your drink is only .99 cents, that's a REAL winner! Gotta save anywhere you can, let's ALL face it, times are HARD and getting harder. Way to Go...

My grandmother stood in line and she wanted two fried chicken legs with her meal to be informed it will be 20 minutes, cool we said we would stay and wait so we waited 15 minutes by the the line is long so we thought whatâs five more minutes we got to the end of the line and made it to the front to be asked what did she want I informed the person behind the line that sheâs waiting on her two chicken legs that we was told would take 20 minutes so she looks behind her and asked another employee about the chicken legs. That employee goes to say, âwe got chicken breast right hereâ I then told her the exact same thing, âshe doesnât want that we was quoted 20 minutes for two chicken legs she doesnât like breastâ. She preceded to go back in the kitchen to check, didnât come back to make it right had another employee come back just to tell us it would be 20 minutes, we told them to keep it and left. I then called another location that was 12 minutes away to place a to go order and low and behold as soon as I mentioned âchicken legsâ the to go person repeats what I said and then pretends not to hear my anymore. I then hang up and tried to call back 4 times and not one time did anyone answer.
