Let me start by saying the Hotel Havana is beautiful and would probably be an excellent place to stay as an individual or couple. However, we had several issues with our group booking.
We had a couple of guests inform us when they called, the hotel was not aware of our block or were told that there were no accommodations still available. One of these guests did end up with a reservation under their name, despite not having placed a credit card on file or receiving a confirmation email. The room was later dropped with no charge after following up with the group manager, but added unneeded stress to our wedding week.
Several guests found the staff to be rude and unaccommodating.
The wording on the contract was somewhat confusing regarding cancellations. It was unclear to us that we would be responsible for non emergency cancellations within 60 days of the event. It is also not defined what qualifies as an emergency cancellation. We did have several guests cancel in the weeks approaching the wedding, whose rooms we had to fill in order to keep from being charged.
The hotel did not permit early check-ins or late check-outs despite us booking over 80% of the rooms in the hotel. They did allow us 3 parking vouchers. One guest who had to cancel Friday evening because of the flu was not allowed to check in until after standard check in times, despite having originally booked the previous day. Another guest whose room we were paying for was not initially allowed to check in, despite the hotel having our card on file, because we had not yet arrived at the hotel.
The hotel manager emailed us the day before our wedding that they would not allow flowers to be placed in the hotel because we did not reserve all the rooms. However, they had informed us a week previously, when our block was already released to public knowing that not all rooms were booked through us, that the it would be permitted. They eventually allowed us to place the flowers after a conversation in person. However, we found it very unprofessional to inform us in the manner they did with such short notice.
The parking lot is too small for the number of spaces it contains. It is difficult to park any vehicle and not worth the price charged per night.
We brought a lot of revenue to the hotel through guests at the hotel, bar, and restaurant. However, we felt they were unaccommodating and added unnecessary stress to our wedding week. The hotel may be a good place to stay on your own, but I would not recommend it for...
Read moreWe were in San Antonio for the Donny Osmond show at the Tobin Center, which is literally right by the hotel. We got to the hotel a bit before check in time and the young man working at the desk was so amazing. Our room wasn’t quite ready, but he found another room that was and got us checked in early. And I’m not sure what our original king room was like, but the one he gave us was amazing, on the 3rd floor with an outdoor balcony right outside our door ! We actually visited the bar in the basement ( DO NOT MISS THE BAR) when we got back to the hotel after the show and took our drinks up to the balcony and sat and enjoyed the quietness of the area and enjoyed looking at the San Antonio downtown skyline… very peaceful and relaxing! The room itself was amazing… I love anything with history and this hotel and the rooms are just the perfect touch of old & new… original wood floors, good size, comfortable beds… and OMG, I loved the linen cover on the bed so much I took a picture of the tag and came home and ordered one just like it!! |The bathroom was perfect for our stay, and there is a full size refrigerator in the room… granted there are items in the fridge to buy, but we still had plenty of room for our waters and a small charcuterie we brought from home. |The hotel smells amazing and I asked what the smell was and it is actually an incense made for them that you can buy in the lobby, which of course I stocked up on!!! The staff are absolutely top notch and you can tell they are happy employees… when we checked in we told them we were concerned that our truck was kinda large for the parking lot and was sticking out some ( because the parking area is fairly narrow & small) and the young man told us no worries, and he told us to pull over to an area right next to the hotel that they use for handicapp parking and extra large vehicles … literally right at the door !!|And I’m not sure where others heard noise, but our room faced Navarro St. and we never heard the traffic or any noise whatsoever… it was extremely quiet as you would think it would be because it is on the quieter end of the Riverwalk.|I cannot wait to come back to stay at this wonderful, historically old beautiful hotel! Thank you Hotel Havana for a memorable stay that I get to relive at home with the incense burning and sleeping under the same...
