Mad Dogs British Pub (River Walk) — Restaurant in San Antonio

This happened a few years ago, and I just discovered that I never left a review. I went here with a group of friends for a birthday, and we were sat close to the stage. At the time there was a DJ / host / whatever (I believe her name was something stupid like 'Jewel Diamond' or something that has to do with the only thing inside of her head) on stage that was playing music and interacting with the audience every now and then over the microphone. As we sat there, we were commenting on how we liked the music selection, and someone commented that it sounded like the Guardians of the Galaxy sound track since a number of the songs played were in that movie. We thought nothing of it and moved onto a different topic entirely.

A few minutes later the song that was playing ends, and the DJ lady gets on the microphone and starts talking about how we were talking crap about her. We looked at her confused and said 'no we weren't at all' and she continued on with 'don't lie to me, I've been doing this a long time, I can tell what you guys are doing.' We were still confused and kind of just went back to our conversation. Each time she got on the microphone after that she'd make remarks about us like we were these horrible people or something. A few of our friends started feeling very uncomfortable, so I just commented loudly that no idiot on a microphone is going to ruin our night. Luckily we were able to salvage the night and enjoy our meal. When we left, the DJ tried to get the other people in the pub to cheer, but no one did. It was sad that she had such little self confidence and such a fragile ego, and was willing to ruin the night for everyone in the restaurant (everyone else obviously was annoyed by her as well).

This is a very mediocre pub staffed entirely with young kids. We sat inside and waited for more than 10 minutes before I finally flagged down one of the waitresses walking by (many of them saw us sitting there and just looked or walked away) and asked if anyone was working in our section. Apparently our table was the responsibility of the young guy who looked like he was hiding behind the bar. The girl I flagged down talked to him an he finally came over. We gave our complete order because by now we were past hungry. My dining partner ordered the club sandwich and I got the Cobb salad. The salad didn’t come with anywhere near enough dressing so once again I had to flag down our elusive waiter. He didn’t come back to check on the meal until we were done. His area had people at a grand total of 4 tables. Listen, the food is ok. But just ok. If you are a Brit travelling to the area you will think it’s crap. I live in an area of southern Ontario surrounded by lots of great pubs. This place isn’t that. Now given that it’s on the river walk my expectations were lower because it’s a big tourist area but still. Save your money for someplace else. Most of the waitresses were constantly checking their phones rather than working. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had service this bad. 9/8/2024 We have stopped here a few times before while in San Antinio. But this is the first time with our new puppy. We expected to sit our side, which it was beautiful evening. Our server was Esteban S. Amazing service, recommendation and patient. We split the Fish and Chips which for use was good portion, Esteban S had go back and forth for the beer situation, which for some it would frustrate due to the fact he had to go up and downstairs. Not him still had a smile and gave tentative service! So impressed we came back the next day. 9/9/2024 The second time it was around lunch time just for drinks, We did sit inside with our puppy in a stroller, it was really warm outside. Wimpy baby puppy. Our bartender was Ashley she gave great service and again smiles and personable! After we left, we decided to have dinner here. Ashley was getting close to leaving but had stock to finish. Our bartender was Crystal, again she did not disappoint! I ordered the Cobb salad, Husband ordered Classic B.L.T. The Cobb salad was delicious, chicken tender, dressing amazing the salad itself was filling. Husband really enjoyed the Classic B.L.T, bacon was cooked to satisfaction which is a hit and miss.
