Anniversary number 14 we had so much fun in our staycation it was a nice little gateway we stayed at the Hilton Garden inn Downtown San Antonio We had dinner close by, and we also stopped by at Hopscotch! Staying at Hilton Garden inn It was so convenient. Everything was walking distance.

I am a Hilton Diamond member. I actually ended up at this hotel somewhat by accident. I mistakenly booked a stay near the airport for the wrong date so last minute had to cancel that Hampton reservation & this was only Hilton property available close-ish to airport on short notice. Overall my experience was fine. At the time of booking I did not realize PARKING WAS $25 a night & the Hampton I had booked near airport was no charge. Downtown San Antonio there is limited parking so be prepared to pay. To avoid this charge I actually just parked on the city street overnight...no charge until 8am and then you can pay for 2 hour increments for about $3.50...so maybe street parking works/can save you some money. Hotel entrance was on ground floor (security key or buzz-in only) & it's just a lobby on that level so you need to go up a floor to check-in desk. If you use app have electronic key you of course can go directly to your room. I checked in later in the eve and the app would NOT give me a key so I had to go to the desk to check in. When I got to my room...a bit strange, the door to my room was ajar/open when I got there. I opened slowly & nobody was in there so all good but strange nonetheless. Also the tub drain was closed & tub was partially filled with water. Weird. Maybe they just finished cleaning it & forgot?? Not sure. Anyhow my room was fine for the most part...modern/up to date. It had typical HGI amenities w small fridge & microwave etc. There were plenty of power plugs for electronics. Everything was functional & operational. Desk & chair were fine. Sitting chair was a bit stiff (not big/cushy for lounging/relaxing to watch TV) but was comfortable for sitting brief periods. *BEWARE* fire/smoke alarm was mounted on the wall (up about 7-8 ft) directly across from foot of bed. Laying in bed looking straight forward the lights are somewhat directly in field of view. With room lights off the alarm had 2 small GREEN FLASHING LIGHTS that blinked every 5-10 seconds! NOT GOOD if you don't like flashing lights in your room while trying to sleep. Obviously they are small lights but definitely noticeable. I had to cram a washcloth into the cracks around the alarm case to block the flashing light in order to get to sleep. Annoying.

I really don't know what to think about these reviews. I'm thinking they were all made up or someone was paid to review this place. The very first thing that comes to you is that nasty filthy carpet all over this place. I didn't even want to step on the carpet barefooted it's so filthy nasty. Only one elevator working, the one that was working was not level with the floor and there was a big trip hazard where we were all jumping over to try to get onto the landing. The parking is horrible because it's downtown so there's nowhere to park so they take your car and park it in an empty lot near the property and charge you $40. I understood we got a free Continental breakfast, after serving myself I asked for silverware and they had a tucked away behind the bar and the gentleman tells me well there's an $18 fee for breakfast..... They make you serve yourself and then they tell you it's not free. I went ahead and agreed to the $18 Heck family had already served ourselves. The food was so nasty and rubbery, I don't think they cook the food here I think it comes out of a bag onto a skillet and onto a plate. Everything tasted not good to be nice. The mattress feels like the springs are ready to pop out when you lay on the mattress the springs are making crumpling noise is under you. The sheets felt like they were washed and did not use softener they were very rough itchy. Sorry it sounds like a bunch of complaints but I truthfully wasn't happy The only good thing about this place that is close to the Riverwalk but it is not what the reviews say. I booked this place for 2 days which was a total of $514, plus valet parking. Anyways I was so disgusted with this place I wanted to leave after the first day. The lady tells me because I booked both days together that was a special price..... Hmmmm. She was wanting $615 for one day one night for me to cancel. I just left and went home. What an awful experience. Please be cautious of what reviews your reading for those place. 12.2.24 how generous, management return my hotel fee. Thank you. My apologies for the harsh statements. Wow this says a lot about your establishment. Thank you for caring.

My best friend and I stayed here a few weeks ago, and I will never stay at a Hilton again after what we went through.

First off, they nickel and dimed us at every turn. No complimentary breakfast, it's $20/PERSON. Parking at the hotel was $47 a night plus $25 a day, which would have added up to well over $200 just to keep our car there while staying at a hotel room we had already paid for. Which, with all the reviews detailing the excessive break-ins while using valet, clearly it wasn't worth it anyway. Since we refused to pay that ridiculous fee, we had to park two blocks away and carry all of our luggage to the hotel, something I’ve never had to do at any other hotel.

When we got to our room, the shower was filthy and had mold. For a Hilton, that’s completely unacceptable. The problems didn’t stop there. I called room service to ask for water, and they told me they could not bring water to the room — I would have to come downstairs and purchase it again at almost $4 per bottle. They also had complimentary spa water in the lobby we were using previous nights to obtain water, which was empty. When I asked for it to be refilled, the front desk staff member named Andrea was incredibly rude, unhelpful, and chose to escalate the situation instead of simply providing basic hospitality.

Andrea actually called the cops on us over water. Yes — water. We were kicked out of the hotel in the middle of the night, while it was raining, in a city we weren’t even familiar with, two hours from home. The police themselves told us how absurd the situation was and even laughed with us about how unnecessarily the hotel staff had escalated things. If we had been disorderly, as Andrea implied, the police would have arrested or cited us — but of course, that didn’t happen.

This was by far the most unprofessional, hostile, and disappointing experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. Between the outrageous parking fees, the dirty room, the lack of basic amenities, and being thrown out in the rain over bottled water, this Hilton completely failed on every level.

To make matters even more unbelievable, one of the valet staff members actually witnessed what was happening in the lobby. She gestured for us to follow her to the elevator, and when we explained why we were upset — that we simply needed water, that Andrea had refused to help us and instead called the police — she was shocked. She told us that was ridiculous and went downstairs herself to get us water. This just proves how unnecessary and unprofessional the front desk staff’s behavior was, having another Hilton employee clearly see how poorly the situation was handled.

I however would recommend Hotel Contessa, they were more than helpful & apologized we had to go through such trouble at Hilton for water and provided us with FOUR complimentary water bottles upon entering our room.

Save yourself the stress and money, do...

Our Stay was for 5 nights. This hotel was infested with ANTS! they were in our room, bathroom, lobby, by the pool. and in the restaurant they were everywhere. We told the desk and they were "sorry about the inconvenience" This is a multi billion dollar international corporation. I bet there are no ants in the world headquarters. Our room backed up to the elevators and you could hear the doors opening and closing all night. We asked for a different room after the 1st night. Malik at the front desk had maintenance help us move to a new room at 10:30 pm. Our new room which faced Houston St. had a beautiful view of downtown, the only problem was the noise from the street and the bar across the street (The Whiskey Distillery) was so loud that you could actually feel the low frequency Bass. I took a glass of water and placed it on the window sill and you could see the vibrations in the water! I would think a corporation the size of Hilton could get the city of San Antonio to enforce there noise ordinance. Also we assumed that for the price we paid for a room per night that it would include a free continental breakfast. I had an English muffin and a coffee, my wife had a bowl of fruit. an employee came over to our table and handed us a bill for $36.00 she informed us the the continental breakfast was $18.00 per person! We ask to see the manager and She (Tracy) said that we had to pay the bill. The head Chef came out and said he would take care of the bill. The staff at this Hotel went out of their way to accommodate us. They were polite and very friendly. We tipped them accordingly. Every morning we came down to the lobby and the restaurant area was empty, wonder why...Also, This Hotel does not offer room service unless you request it. So if you need a toweI or bar of soap or clean sheets you have to request it then wait for someone to bring it to your room. The Microwave in our room nearly caught on fire. it smelled like burning wires the first time we used it. They had to replace it but could not get it back into the cabinet so they just left on the countertop next to the TV. The surface of the bathtub was incredibly slippery and downright dangerous. They have rubber safety mats, but you have to request it at the front desk! My wife had broken a hip from a fall and I have hip replacement in both hips. A fall for earther of us would have been catastrophic!! We would not recommend this...
