The best pork chop, hands down! It was my first time trying this succulent dish at Perry’s Steakhouse. Our server Derek did a phenomenal job carving it and explaining each step thoroughly. Five stars for the food, service, and ambiance! #PerrysSteakhouse #PerrysPorkChop #PorkChop #Applesauce #LaCantera #SanAntonio 062323

What started off as an unpleasant experience at Perry’s last night turned into an excellent one, despite the flaws. These days, to make an online reservation at Perry’s, you are required to provide your credit details to reduce the number of no-shows and cancellations. Inconvenient, but I get it, although I think it also drives some people elsewhere instead of providing CC details online. We arrived for a 6:30 reservation to a practically empty main dining room, and the hostess placed us at the very first two-top as you enter the dining area. The sun was glaring into my husband’s eyes through the glass front of the restaurant, and there was nonstop traffic of diners and employees going past our table. A sea of empty tables, and we got that one! We expressed our dissatisfaction but the hostess brushed it off. We ended up asking our server, Eli, if it would be possible to move. A young man in a suit arrived and moved us to a back dining area. It was much better, until the moment husband rested his elbows on the table and the whole tabletop tilted. Any pressure applied in any way (cutting his pork chop, for example), caused the table to tilt. Incredibly annoying any time, but especially when you are trying to eat. Our oysters arrived with no serving utensils for the mignonette and the cocktail sauce, so we just sat there until we could flag someone down to request them. We were thinking this would be our last visit to Perry’s (we’ve been pretty regular since they opened, but then Covid… and now the nearby highway closures have kept us away). Eli really changed our minds about that. He provided great service and made excellent recommendations on a few things we probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise. He was trying very hard to make the experience better, being very attentive, understanding, and friendly. At one point, just after he made a recommendation for the corn brûlée, he was chatting with us and the manager did a drive-by where my husband caught the manager motioning for Eli to leave. I understand you don’t want servers to linger, but it wasn’t even busy… and little did this manager know that, if it wasn’t for Eli, between his service and solid recommendations, this review would be much lower based on our interactions with other staff. I hope Eli is still there the next time we go… and I hope the corn brûlée is still there, too!

Lets start by talking about getting in the front door. It was crazy tough, rewarding, but really crazy obstacle course tough. We parked in the lower entrance parking. The elevator was like a five minute walk away. Yeah. It was out of order. Boo. My friend who had suggested this place said we would be ok because there was an escalator on the other side. Yeah. The side that goes up wasn't working. Boo again. Lots of boo. Now the only two options would be to drive around to the upper side and hope to find parking OR climb the stairs. The "Pyramid of the Magician" in Yucatan stairs. They were beautiful. The water feature was great. But the visual did not make up for the upcoming mountain climb. Not to mention the loose hand rails. I asked my friend to go ahead and grab our reservation, which was now about 3 minutes away. I finally made it. Im sharing the story so you can call ahead and find out if the way up is working or should you do stretches before you go. Im also telling you this because all that effort was Ssssooo worth it. René was a great server. Really great. Super friendly. He and the staff catered to our every need. Now lets talk food. My friend suggested this place because on Fridays for lunch, they have a pork chop that you have to see to believe and taste to remember. This thing will draw ahhhs out of vegetarians. A sweet crusty outside. Meat that falls off the bone. Apple sauce. Man, if you like apple sauce make sure to ask for two. You will want to dip everything in it including your fingers. The fresh bread was an assault on your carb craving. Ok now, the price. The Friday lunch special is $17.99. Which is as incredible as the pork chop itself! Treat yourself to something special you will make this a regular thing. If you take the stairs it will work off the meal. Lol

The food and service were good, but a small mistake led to a rough first-impression, made up later by fantastic entrees. I'll explain the mistake: we ordered a shrimp-cocktail as a starter, which came with 5(?) raw jumbo shrimp on a large bowl of ice. The portion size of this was extremely small; though the plate was at a size and height that suggested it was a table starter, the shrimp looked like they were isolated on a glacier by comparison. We had just assumed that meant extremely good/fresh shrimp, well... The actual mistake happened when everyone at our table realized that the cocktail had been left out for a while (it smelled heavily of fish and even after going to wash our hands, we couldn't get the smell off). This was confirmed by a very confused server coming to our table after we had already consumed a few of the shrimps, with another cocktail (which I assume is the one that was actually made for us). We almost never complain, so our group just told him that we "already received ours" and he took it back. In retrospect, we probably should have said something. That out of the way, our entrees came and this part of the meal was very enjoyable. The steak was cooked perfectly (I ordered the 3-filet special w/wagyu, American wagyu, and A5). My friend's steak was also fantastic and my wife's pork was incredible (if not a bit "too much" for her. I don't think she realized it was 32oz.! haha.). All said, I would absolutely come back and eat here again. The shrimp mixup is not a good reason to avoid this restaurant and I doubt it happens often.

We used to enjoy coming here for special occasions. NY strip steak was way overdone and was definitely NOT prime quality as advertised. Several people at the table (all had different cuts) all commented that the flavor was not good and whatever seasoning they now use, tastes like a cheap Salisbury steak. This included my wife's Tenderloin. I usually never say anything, but I had to send it back. The second steak was cooked correctly, however almost half was inedible due to hard rubber texture throughout. The bad steak seasoning was also the same. Our celebration was for our son's milestone birthday, and we took him because he's always wanted to try the pork chop, however, that was a miss as well. His pork chop was smaller than past visits, barely warm and the meat was very dry and hard. He left a good portion of it because he said it was "not good". The attached pictures show how it used to look and the last one is the most recent visit that looks like someone's leftovers. (I guess this is how they're serving it now.) This is absolutely not the quality it used to be. He did not want to say anything to the waiter so we did not mention it at the time. The last few times have gotten worse and I could see this happening only once or twice, but this is definitely a downward trend. I can think of many other places that we would rather spend $300-$400 for a special occasion. It's unfortunate, but I don't think we will be returning.

I had never been to Perry's before but I had heard nothing but great things about it. I'm a veteran and was going through the list of restaurants that were offering free meals to veterans for Veteran's Day and I happened to see Perry's was on the list. It was my granddaughter's birthday so I wanted to take her to celebrate in style. Their offer was for a free lunch-portion pork chop with the purchase of an entree off of the lunch menu. Their lunch menu is good until 5pm. The server brought out some delicious, warm bread with butter. The pork was delicious and had to be at least 10 ounces. It came with mashed potatoes and I ordered their brussel sprouts. My granddaughter wanted the hamburger and fries, we split the brussel sprouts. Everything was absolutely delicious! The pork chop was cooked to perfection, the potatoes were seasoned just right. Since it was my granddaughter's birthday, they offered her a complimentary dessert. She chose the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake. It was so light and airy and so good! The restaurant is beautiful, the food is great, best service imaginable, and it has a great lunch menu. Oh, and they have some great adult drinks to pair with it all. I highly recommend and will definitely be back! I also suggest you make a reservation. We were seated 10 minutes before our own reservation and there were lots of people on the wait list.
