As a seasoned gentleman living in San Antonio (originally from LA, mind you), I’ve been on the hunt for a place where the 35-and-up crowd can relax without the chaos of loud kids and TikTok trends. So, when a colleague mentioned Qulturé, I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
I strolled in, half-expecting a grand entrance 😂,but nope—no one greeted me. Not a huge deal; I wasn’t looking for red carpets, just a hello. I found my way to the bar and had a friendly chat with the bartender, who politely answered my questions. Great start, right? I grabbed a seat, only to realize I needed to order a drink. Back to the bar I went.
Now, this is where things went a little sideways. The bartender was busy chatting with a few folks at the other end, and I figured she’d take my order soon enough. But no, she wasn’t exactly in a hurry nor panning the bar. I stood there, awkwardly, like I was invisible. Realizing no service was coming anytime soon, I gave a little wave—she noticed me right away and finally took my order. But then she closed me out without even asking if I wanted to keep the tab open! I mean, come on! Luckily, my waitress swooped in, and she was super friendly. I decided to keep my business with her.
Here’s the thing though, and it pains me to say this: Customer service these days has really fallen off a cliff. I get it, times are tough, but the hustle? Gone. And yet, the expectation to tip is still very much alive and well.
Look, I have no problem tipping—been there, done that. I spent over 20 years as a bartender on the side (while serving in the Air Force). But where’s the effort? The drive? This is especially frustrating because Qulturé is a Black-owned business, by vet(s) and I want to support them.
That said, I hear there’s a live band on Sundays, and I’m planning to swing by around 1300 hours (military time, yes, I’m that guy) as recommended by the lovely waitress. Fingers crossed for an older crowd and some next-level service. We’ll see if second time’s the charm. See you then, Qulturé. I’m...

As soon as we were seated the owner came to our table to check on us and ensure we were satisfied with the place/service; great guy! I have to say that Qulturé is definitely not your typical San Antonio brunch restaurant, they actually have a very talented live DJ, they offer drinks like this impressive mimosa tower, among other creative cocktails, and the waitresses are dressed in some bathing suit type outfits. However, today I would like to talk about the food because it was EXCEPTIONAL!!! We ordered the lamb chops breakfast, (three lamb chops with truffle cheese scrambled eggs and roasted potatoes). We also ordered the chicken and waffles, (a delicious sweet potato waffle with pecan syrup, candied bacon, and super tasty chicken wings). Lastly, we ordered the shrimp and grits, (and out of this world cajun shrimp, catfish, and sausage with peppers, onions, and spinach on gouda grits with a garlic cream sauce). To simply say that the food was good would not be doing the chef justice. The grits alone had this amazing taste I’ll never forget. All of our meals had great presentation and an interesting flavor I’ve not experienced before; they were just perfect! (Right before we left, the owner introduced the chef and recognized her for being the great chef she is. Turns out she previously worked as an executive chef within the Spurs organization). I cannot say enough how impressed I was with her food! On a scale of 1-10, I’d definitely give the food a 10+! I’d love to try another amazing meal prepared by her. She was also so nice and friendly, even agreed to take a picture with me 😉. Thank...
