Auntie Linh (or Lyn), you've an absolute gem and AAHARN by Koon Thai is very blessed to have you. From start to finish, you made me feel like family, checked on me frequently, and just made me incredibly welcomed at the restaurant.
I stumbled upon AAHARN by Koon Thai after a massive craving for some Thai food, and let's just say, AAHARN delivered. They delivered hard.
The prices are a bit high, but you get an insanely generous portion. Plus, it's a Thai restaurant in Little Italy. I wasn't one bit surprised.
My favorite dish of the evening was the Galangal Coconut Broth. Best. Freaking. Soup. Ever. I enjoyed this more than my entree. I could have this soup for days, if not weeks. Well seasoned. Well cooked. The toppings and meat were all fresh. I'm legit salivating thinking about this. If you're looking for an addition to your meal, and don't want to settle for a cliche appetizer, I strongly encourage adding this dish to your order.
My entree of the evening was the Pad Thai Tiger Prawn. The noodles definitely reminded me of my time in Bangkok. Each ingredient was well-prepared, including the ground peanuts that had an alluring authentic taste and aroma. I was a bit so-so on the tiger prawns, as they were a tad bit smaller than I'm typically used to. They were also grilled, and you can smell the smoke and fumes in each and every bite. Again, I think it didn't add too much for me. Overall, the pad thai was decent, not the best I've had, but with the generous portions, I'd definitely consider ordering this again.
Thank you, AAHARN by Koon Thai for such a lovely evening. Y'all are a great addition to the Little Italy community, and I can't wait to try some of your Auntie Linh (or Lyn), I'll see you again soon! I'm already referring my friends...
Read moreWas visiting a relative staying at a hotel nearby and this was the closest thai restaurant walking distance. It is located in an office building, but was easy to find with signs around. On the weekend we went it was mostly empty inside.
We ordered a chicken satay as a starter. The amount of chicken on each stick was decent and was great as is or with the peanut sauce provided. I ordered the basil chicken with mild spice. I will mention that if sensitive to spice that even mild had quite the kick. I also tried some panang curry (mild) and enjoyed the flavor. Portions were large and we had leftovers for another time. There was only one lady handling the tables, but she checked on us frequently and we had a nice chat with her before we left. Overall thought this was a decent thai place in the area.
For parking we used a garage near the hotel and walked a few blocks to...
Read moreThis restaurant just opened in the Columbia District near the Santa Fe train station. The decor is simple - almost sterile, but the staff there are very friendly and attentive. Now for the food: DELICIOUS. We had the Tom Yum soup with shrimp which was really flavorful and a bit spicy. Then we each had a curry, yellow with chicken and massaman with tofu. Again, flavorful and delicious. For a vegetarian like me, the massaman was particularly interesting because it had so many different vegetables - carrots, potatoes, green beans, broccoli, cabbage and zucchini, along with the tofu. We love all of the Italian and American fare in Little Italy, but were just saying how nice it would be to have something nearby with Asian roots - and wham - there it was. We will definitely be...
