I wish I would have taken pictures to show what I was very disappointed about. Unfortunately my first time visit was not good. I was looking forward this place and did plenty of research. I was impressed on the reviews, pictures and menu. So maybe my review will not be pleasant to fans of this place. Let's start from the beginning. The Deco all around with the atmosphere was cozy, comfortable and pleasant. Loved the 80s yatch rock hits music being played at a perfect hearing level. I felt good vibes because I can see everyone happy and enjoying their time. I saw everyone's plate around me and they all looked delicious. I was in a party of 7 for mother's day and everyone in my party was also their first time. Service was average and waiting food time was regular about 15-20 min since the place was about 90% full and 7 orders at our table. At this time things went negative. 4 sets of utensils were placed and when we requested 3 more the servers were confused to why when it's obvious 7 people and 7 orders. Water was brought without asking but we never were asked if we wanted coffee refills. First cups was warm then the refills were good heated temperature. As for the food....not pleased at all. I ordered the local favorite Chilaquiles plate with carne asada. I truly regret adding the $7 carne asada.. it looked like dog food. My dogs kibbles n bits are bigger than what I got. Very disappointed when I asked the servers my Chilaquiles was with carne and they tell me it's on there, I was in shock 😲! I literally counted 7 little almond size chunks of meat. My dog would have tipped the plate if I served him that. Presentation look decent until I was told those little round nuggets were meat. Not sure the cooks just serve a spoon of meat per plate. My entire plate had no flavor besides the hot sauce I added. Food temperature was barely warm and the Cafe de la Olla was decent when it was hot. I wasn't impressed with my parties orders and sadly they didn't even eat half of their plate. They made no comment since they mostly were there for the mother's day celebration and not for food. Everyone just made an excuse that they weren't hungry just to not sour the moment. So maybe we all just ordered the wrong items on the menu. In the end I was just not impressed and disappointed. I can't recommend this place but would invite everyone to try going and hopefully they have a better experience. I really doubt I will return again unless someone invites me then I will give this place another shot. Sadly I was not happy writing this review. I love OB and wish locals and visitors a pleasant experience at every shop, store...
Read moreCame in on a Monday morning for breakfast with family. Elevator is apparently available if someone assists you with it. Seating is upstairs but my elderly mother managed. We were a group of 5 adults, 2 children and a baby. The restaurant was fairly empty. The waitress said we’d have to wait 30-40 min for the large center booths. I asked if we could move two tables together and she said absolutely not. Again, the place is nearly empty and if you can only sit large groups in the two center booths, why seat smaller groups in it. Literally putting two tables together against the wall would not interfere with traffic. Either way we said we could sit separately. The short Hispanic waitress , didn’t get her name unfortunately, but it was the morning of 6/10, sat group at two separate tables. No menus given and the table I sat at had three chairs so my mom grabbed a chair from the empty table near us. She promptly snatched a chair from the table from our other group’s table and replaces the one my mom took. Never gave us menus, took forever to acknowledge us when we walked in and then the aggressive nature of this gesture was a clear sign she just didn’t want us there. Then when our second table lifted the salt shaker the salt emptied out the bottom. My cousin tried to clean the mess which wasn’t her fault and told the waitress the situation. The waitress didn’t even acknowledge her with salt everywhere and walked away. My cousin had to go the used dish station to grab a rag and a bin to clean the mess herself. Then we waited…. And waited… And waited for our drink order to be taken. Then we waited again…. FOREVER to have our food order taken. Bless the make waiter working that morning to jump into action and say he could take our order when we asked him to please find our waitress. He then immediately acknowledged that we had no menus but we had grabbed one on our own to share. If the rest of my family wasn’t vegan and wanted to eat there so badly I would have left on account of the female waitress. She finally warmed up to my cousin’s husband and was super sweet to him. Not us. I completely understand and restaurant that is understaffed but when you acknowledge and take orders from those who sat way after us, there’s a problem. The food was good and my cousin’s loved their vegan orders. My mom had the basic Benedict and I got the chilaquiles while my son skipped breakfast altogether with this waitress’s rude antics. Such a shame. Again, you can be kind. She was just rude and obviously annoyed by our presence. The children were good and we were all pleasant to her. There was absolutely no...
Read moreCame here for brunch on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. It's been a few years since I've been to this location.
Food was fantastic! I had the Cluck Madam benny with a side of coffee cake and a chai latte. My sister had their special, which was pancakes with strawberry rhubarb compote and a mimosa. Everything was delicious! I want to give a shout out to the breakfast potatoes. They seem like such a small thing (and they are), but breakfast potatoes are hit and miss with me. I can't eat onions or peppers, so I appreciated that there weren't any here. These potatoes were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Everything was cooked and seasoned very well, even the little potatoes. Yummy!
Service: our server was very nice, but service was very slow. Our food came out and we didn't have utensils (and neither did any of the tables around us). A suggestion: the host can grab the rolled up utensils along with menus when seating a table. Problem solved! We had to ask for more water. And it took forever for them to let us pay. It felt like maybe a couple of servers called in because while the servers were very nice and friendly, they just weren't around much.
Atmosphere: man... what used to be hip got worn and dated very quickly. This is most evident in the bathroom area. It was on the gross side. The toilet seat was very small and it was difficult to wipe... it was weird. I remembered this place being modern and hip and clean. It now feels a bit dated and dingy. I have another suggestion: send a host downstairs during busy times to collect names on the waitlist OR have an e-waitlist for people to add names themselves. Then the narrow stairs and the narrow walkway won't get congested with people waiting. I do love getting the text messages about the wait, though. It allowed us to wander around OB while we waited. And the wait was exactly as long as we were quoted.
I love and recommend...
