I wanted to share something that happened to me the other week while here. As a pregnant woman, I felt discriminated and looked down upon. I have eaten here previously with my partner and enjoyed the food… never had an issue. Until last week, as a customer who has been in before, I felt comfortable enough to run into the restroom before ordering my lunch. Keep in mind in my condition, going to the bathroom is almost an emergency every time unfortunately. I was waiting for the next person to get out when the blonde almost middle aged waiter yelled at me from across the entire restaurant in front of everyone to purchase something in order to use the restroom. “ YOU. Gotta buy something first”. I could barely hold it at this point but felt extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed so walked up to the counter to buy my tacos. I was really shaken up by the abrupt and tense way she had continued to talk to me but asked if i could please use the restroom first due to the fact that I’m pregnant and was struggling. She said “Nope. Gotta buy something first”. I was extremely shocked and at that point, just wanted to get it over with so I could go. I purchased my meal and she finally let me in, but when I got out of the restroom I didn’t even wait for my taco because I needed to run to my car and cry. I am so disappointed about how pregnant women are treated nowadays and especially by a restaurant I once enjoyed. I flushed money down the toilet simply to use the restroom as a pregnant woman who was talked down into not even wanting her meal anymore by the staff. Safe to say, I won’t be back and will be sure to share so...
Read moreAs a long-time resident of Ocean Beach, I appreciate how difficult it can be for new restaurants to gain a foothold in such a tight knit, slightly tribal (in the best way) community like ours. However, my experience tonight at Johnny Mañanas has me rooting for these guys in particular. The food was simple, but of high quality and great flavor. I especially enjoyed the quesabirria & consommé along with a nice cold Modelo. My kids, 5 & 3, loved their bean & cheese burrito & carne asada taco respectively. Pricing was refreshingly reasonable and they have amazing specials on beer ($2-$4 each). Most importantly, the employees were welcoming & helpful - it is obvious that they are hoping to become a local’s staple. We’ll be back soon; maybe on a cold night for the...

Skip Hodad's and get the BEST crispy fish tacos you can get for an extremely affordable price.
I don't say cheap because that implies low quality! I have never had better food for $3.50!
As of June 14th they are still newly opened, so they aren't fully staffed just yet, but that wasn't a problem for me any of the 3 times over 2 days that I went. Even if there is a line it would be well worth any wait!
I think everything they offer looked extremely delicious and probably is with the care in making it and quality ingredients, but the "world famous crispy fish taco" was SO GOOD I just had to get that every time.
Very nice staff, right on Newport, amazing food and affordable for everyone! What more could...
