I can’t say enough great things about this place!
I had the opportunity to take some awesome clients here tonight at their suggestion. I was so happy with their choice!
Eddie V’s truly goes above and beyond. When I made our original reservation, I shared that this was for a business meeting with clients I love. I requested a table as close to the water as possible. Damn, did they deliver. If we’d have gotten any closer, they’d have had to serve us in kayaks on the water itself.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this place takes service very seriously. Our server, Daniel M, had his game on lock! This guy made us feel like we were the only table he had, and I know he was busy. As a former service industry member, I know how difficult that is. He absolutely killed it!
We started out with some Yellowfin Tuna Crudo, Calamari, and their lump crab cake.
The Crudo was unbelievable. It was served on a large, chilled platter in a citrusy and somewhat spicy dressing. Each piece had a thin slice of Fresno Chili (I think) on top with a micro green of some type. It was the perfect amount of heat, crunch from the raw chili and micro green, and the Tuna could not have been any fresher. 10/10
I’m not even sure how they held the crab cake together, because it was almost all crab meat. I have never had a better one, actually. It was served with an aioli which had whole grain mustard in it. The mix of creamy aioli and acidity of the mustard was incredible. Again, 10/10.
The calamari was a really different one. It was served on a bed of fried Vermicelli noodles for presentation. The calamari was perfectly seasoned and is exactly what you want when you order that dish. What set it apart was the chilis, cashews, and scallion on top. It was also uniquely served with a citrusy and gingery sauce, rather than the traditional sauces you get everywhere else. Once again, 10/10.
Moving onto entrees. One of my clients and I both ordered the 22 oz. Prime bone in Ribeye Oscar style. My other client ordered the salmon, which she said was perfectly cooked and she loved.
Ok. Let me break this steak down for you, because sweet Jesus that was perfect. We both ordered it medium rare. It was edge to edge perfectly medium rare. It almost made me wonder if they have some Sous vide and pop them in a pan to finish. That’s what I do at home and when steak is pure perfection like that, it isn’t cheating it’s working smarter to deliver the best product to your customer. The crab and Béarnaise sauce made this like a 47/10.
We ordered the butter poached lobster mashed potatoes which were basically a vessel to deliver lobster and dairy to your dome. 10/10
The Brussels sprouts were absolutely out of this world. More cashews for texture, a glaze that I can’t even explain, and the perfect amount of crunch to tenderness. 10/10
Now, for the truffle Mac and cheese. I have never had a better Mac and cheese in my life. I have no idea how they pack that much truffle flavor in that sauce. I wish I did. The crumble on top of Panko, butter, a bit of cheese, and shavings of black truffle made this one of the best dishes I’ve eaten in a very long time, and maybe even in my life. 500/10
I ordered the smoked Old Fashioned which is served table side. They arrive at your table with a glass overturned and some type of wood shouldering underneath to impart that perfect smokiness. When they upright the glass, smoky aromas fill the air and everyone has to know what’s going on at your table. The server then takes a massive ice cube and puts it in your glass. The pre-stirred and strained drink is then poured over the ice and your skewer of orange zest and a cherry are placed on top. It’s perfect.
By the time we were done, all of us were too stuffed for dessert, but we would have done it if we had any space left at all.
Eddie V’s, and especially Daniel M, thank you for an unbelievably enjoyable Thursday night. I can’t think of a way it could have been better.

Read moreMy wife and I celebrated our anniversary here. I must say they have excellent service and good food (I'd still put Mastro's a bit ahead) Usually good food comes with small portions but not with Eddie V's. Usually us consumer are afraid that if a restaurant serves big portions usually the taste and food quality becomes compromise, again Eddie V's proved us wrong. They have this humongous mash potatoes and crab fried rice that are both excellent.
Now, my wife and I didn't get to try any meat, we figure since they claim that they have a "prime seafood" then we went with their pescatarian menu and they were delish. I got a Chilean Sea bass although I still have to put Roy's CS ahead from Eddie V's when it comes on how my sea bass taste.
Now you may ask why 4 stars? If I had such an excellent experience, why not make it a 5? Well I've got two reasons:
(1) Although our server Kevin is great, several hosts at the front are not really accommodating. They don't really make you feel special. We arrived and they just told us to wait and when we left they don't even say goodbye and ask you how's everything. They were just chitchatting amongst themselves. Now you might think that "hey isn't that asking a little bit much" or someone might say "aren't you a little too much" before you go up to your high white horse and act all perfect... allow me to explain... Let's not beat around the bush and you guys know how real I am so let's be real.. This is a fancy place. You choose this fancy place to celebrate a special occasion. So isn't it too much to ask to feel a bit special just for two hours? And I'm not asking for them to treat us royals. No I'm not Lorde or some kind of celebrity. I ain't asking for free stuff either, all I'm asking is a little professionalism and courtesy. Make you feel welcome and them reminding you that "hey, we got you! This is your special day." For example we've been to Mastro's and Fleming's, from the Host to the Servers they are all very friendly, warm and welcoming. From the time we arrive and we leave they make us feel that we are wanted there. That's what lacks here on Eddie V's. Hopefully they train the host to be more congenital.
(2) When we sat down there's already a cocktail shrimp on the table. We believe that its the restaurant's courtesy for our special occasion. However at the end of the dinner we noticed that the shrimp was charged in our bill. I didn't even say anything, I just paid for it since I enjoyed it anyway. But let's say that they encountered someone that's not me. Someone that would say "Hey I didn't order that. We thought it was a give away." Then yes that's not really a classy move from you Eddie. You should have not put a food there and make it seem that it's free and then expect people to pay. I rather have the table with no food and know that whatever I ordered is what I'm going to pay. I do appreciate the rose petals on the table though!
Oh well, I hope that we are the last people that would experience these two issues, because over all, this place has good food, good view and excellent service. On the other hand I do hope that Eddie V's would improve and resolve those issues though.
Would I recommend it to others? Yes! Would I recommend them to come here on their special occasion? Absolutely not. Would I come back here sometime in the near future? Hmmm... I rather find explore some...

Having dined at numerous establishments in San Diego, Eddie V's stood out not only for its incredible cuisine but for the exceptional service provided by our server, Jeremiah, who truly made the evening unforgettable.
From the moment we walked through the door, the entire staff at Eddie V's went above and beyond to make me feel special. They greeted me with congratulations and warm smiles, setting a celebratory tone that lasted throughout the evening. This attention to detail made my bachelorette celebration feel incredibly personal and memorable.
Our culinary journey began with the lobster bisque and oysters, both of which were exquisite. The lobster bisque was rich and creamy, with a perfect balance of flavors that left us savoring every spoonful. The oysters were fresh, briny, and expertly shucked, providing a delightful start to our meal.
For our main courses, we chose the New York steak, the Chilean sea bass, and the ahi tuna. Each dish was a masterpiece in its own right, making it nearly impossible to decide which was the best. The New York steak was cooked to perfection, with a beautifully seared crust and a tender, juicy interior. The sea bass was a standout, with a delicate, flaky texture and a subtly sweet flavor that paired wonderfully with its accompaniments. The ahi tuna was equally impressive, seared just right to retain its succulent, melt-in-your-mouth quality.
What made our dining experience even more enjoyable was the way we all wanted to try each other's dishes. Every bite was a testament to the chef's expertise and the high quality of ingredients used. It was clear that each dish was prepared with care and precision, resulting in a symphony of flavors that left us all delighted.
Jeremiah, our server, played a crucial role in making the evening exceptional. His knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations enhanced our dining experience, while his friendly and attentive service made us feel like VIPs. Jeremiah's genuine enthusiasm and dedication to ensuring we had a perfect evening truly set him apart.
