I like the Living Room a lot for the hookah lounge portion of the business. I am quite new as far as being a customer goes, and so far I am really enjoying their services and products offered!
The lounge I used to go to has permanently shut down and I am in search of a new lounge that I can go to that I can study at, hang out at, etc. and so far the Living Room has not disappointed me at all!
I am a very picky hookah smoker and they have accommodated me greatly so far when I have come in to smoke. They don't have a super large variety of sheesh available, but they definitely have the popular one available!
They offer Starbuzz Tobacco, Al Fakher, and Fumari (which is based out of San Diego!)
They currently do not offer the chance for you to have milk added on to the base of your hookah, which is fairly understandable, it gets messy and it takes longer to fully clean and sanitize the hookah after it has been used. But their hookahs have been hitting great every time I have come in, with just water in the base! They also offer two different types of coals for the hookah when you place your order, or if you want to switch while you are there. They offer Quick Light coals and Coconut based coals. I prefer the coconut based coals because they burn cleaner essentially. There isn't any nasty after smell to them when they are lit, unlike the quick light coals- or at least that is what I have noticed with the quick light coals.
Another great aspect about the Living Room is that they offer a full menu for food, they have a good selection of coffees and teas available for hot drinks, and a good Wine & Beer menu as well! I really enjoyed their house Sauvignon Blanc when I ordered a glass, if I remember correctly it was a Robert Mondavi Sauvignon Blanc, highly recommended if you like white wines! (A GREAT PLUS to the wine that I ordered was that they brought it out to me CHILLED!)
The only thing that I am a little unsure about currently is the actual pricing for their hookahs, it has been a little pricier than what I previously paid for at a different lounge, but it is not a deterrent for me so far!
I would highly recommend giving the Living Room a chance if you feel like visiting! The staff is very friendly and will do their best to make sure you are comfortable and happy with your order!
EDIT: If you don't mind waiting for basically forever for services on the weekends, then no worries. I would not suggest going to the Living Room on the weekends if you are looking for somewhat fast service. I requested a refill and waited close to thirty minutes, I then notified another employee about the fact that I had ordered one and have been waiting thirty minutes. He promptly returned with my refill and was very kind and professional about it all.
Also the noise level is absurd on the weekends, you have to yell to the person literally right next to you. You could practically be in their lap and still have to yell to barely...
Read moreSome of the staff is very rude! Not worth overpriced subpar food. You're better off at another cafe nearby. I recommend trilogy sanctuary or green door cafe in la jolla!
One of the workers was quite aggressive/rude to me. I walked in finishing a drink, before I bought a coffee. They told me I had to finish my drink outside, understandable. I set my stuff down outside to finish my drink for a few minutes when a man working there said I could not be on the premise with my drink. I packed up my stuff for a second time and stood outside the cafe on the sidewalk to finish my drink. He then threatened to call the police on me numerous times and tried to ban me from the cafe. I responded that I went outside like he requested and asked how finishing my drink on the sidewalk was breaking any rules (to my knowledge they do not own the sidewalk). I also said I planned to come back in to buy food/drink so I didn't understand what the problem was since I obliged his request.
He then accused me of stealing a single water cup, as if one water cup would cause them financial ruin... I've never been treated so rudely, been threatened of having cops called or accused of stealing (one water cup)... it was all very absurd. It seemed as if he was having a bad day and was trying to regain a sense of control by exerting the little amount of power he has over customers, quite sad.
I've come here many times and spent well over $100 in food/ drinks but after this irreparable treatment I will no longer come here or recommend people to this cafe. By being so rude and aggressive over me finishing my $3 drink outside on the sidewalk, this employee effectively lost this cafe hundreds of dollars of revenue from me, my friends, and family in the future. This employee was so busy picking up pennies on the street that he missed the dollars on the table, as the saying goes. I hope his outburst was worth the lost customers and money he caused living room cafe. Please...
Read moreUsed to be my favorite place. Now, its gone terribly wrong...the girl at the front was great, but I was told that there is only bottled water, while before you could just pour your own water. Drinks are amazing as always but I got a sandwich and that was $11. It was good but not worth that price. Also, there are no prices displayed at the menu behind the counter. That's an issue. When the sandwich was delivered by the lady (took a while), I asked for mayonnaise and she looked at me like she didn't wanna get me any...I got the look of 'really'?.. I mean, if you dont wanna work here, nobody is forcing you.
I am also very disappointed that there is no music playing, its just very quiet and awkward. However, I happened to sit next to the door where they wash the dishes and they LEFT the door open the whole time!! I hear dishes being washed and plates being stacked and I hear Mexican music that they are playing from the inside...... that is ridiculous. This is a cafe where we come to relax and pay $18 for a coffee and a sandwich. Overpriced and then we hear all these noises that I am sure me and other do not want to.
Let me not get started on the overpriced upstairs and terrible 'self-service' when you got waiters. I have not had such bad service in years. We ordered margaritas, they didn't make the effort to tell us that the downstairs was already closed. We waited and waited for service until my friend got upset and went to ask. At the end for one hookah and 2 regular beers we paid $46.
This place is not like it used to. It used to be away better. Its just sad, honestly. I would bring friends here when they come to visit and be proud of this cool place, now, its just an embarrassment. Only good thing left is the ocean view and the cool tables...
