Some girlfriends and I visited Lobster West La Jolla because the restaurant has such high ratings. It's right in the heart of a great area for shopping, dining, and just feeling a cool breeze from the beach (at least from this Texan's point of view). Let me just say the lobster roll and the crab roll were dynamically the best I've ever had. The bread alone was a toasted buttery delight that made me dance on the inside at how great it tasted. After one spoon of the lobster bisque, I was physically dancing in my chair enticed by the burst of flavor and the music from the restaurant speakers :)
Rated at the top of my list of things I love about Lobster West La Jolla is the customer service. When placing my order, I was greeted with a smile by the cashier. He provided genuine small talk and patiently waited for us to make our food choice even after answering the same questions several times. I was even more impressed by another gentleman who worked there who checked on us from time to time to make sure everything was to our standards. I'll admit I probably paid more attention to him than I should have but in the few moments that I spoke with him, he carried such a warming spirit I was drawn in by his positive energy. Simplistically handsome, I observed him checking on guests, chatting with staff, and maintaining the overall presence of the establishment. Jokingly, he even calmed my nerves when I inquired about a local beach area that made headlines concerning seals chasing some overzealous tourists. I really wished we could have talked more 😉
Nonetheless, folks you gotta try Lobster West La Jolla out. It's reasonably priced, fulfilling, and holds a relaxing atmosphere. You won't be...
Read moreGreat little spot in La Jolla for a quick bite when in the mood for a lobster roll and chowda. I ask myself this at every lobster roll shop though. Was it worth it? Usually the answer is yes, but I’ll save the five star reviews for the place that wows me at that price point. I opted for the “boss” lobster roll which has 50% more meat at $31. Not sure if the regular would have been disappointing or not, but I guess we will never know cause the boss was good, so assume the regular would be lacking. The sandwich was very good, but at $31, it better be. The best value in my opinion was the flight of three soups for $12 and is easily the only reason I would go back. You can get a lobster roll almost anywhere these days, but the trio of soups was a bit unique and right up my alley cause I can never choose just one. All three were delish. Lobster bisque being my favorite. Didn’t have lobster meat, but at $4 avg per soup, had the right flavors. Really can’t go wrong with any of the soups, but the option to try all three was a marketing winner. Parking on a rainy Monday was not easy, so plan accordingly. I was just passing through, so trying for street parking. If you plan to check out the local shops, there was public parking, but the one closest couldn’t accommodate the height...
Read moreAs someone born and raised in New England, I’ve learned that the west coast cannot figure out the art of a lobster roll and I unfortunately have to say that Lobster West is on the list. I ordered the Classic Lobster roll for $22. They don’t describe on the menu if they’ll be making it Maine or Connecticut style. The lobster was cold (Maine style) but was in just butter (CT style), so it was a weird mix of styles - Maine style is supposed to be in mayonnaise rather than butter and CT style the meat should be warm. If you don’t have a preference, then maybe you won’t care about this. & the bun was nicely buttered and warm! My friend ordered the “boss” roll which is supposed to have 50% more lobster meat, it honestly didn’t look like she had any more lobster on hers than I did (which wasn’t a lot). They put the lobster almost on top of the bun to make it appear like there’s more, so you have to actually push the meat into the bun. I had high expectations for this place based on reviews so I was disappointed. On the brighter side - the employees were very nice and the...
