Gooseberries kafe — Restaurant in San Diego

This place is an absolute gem! The food, the service, the vibe… all just phenomenal! We had the açaí bowl, the egg breakfast plate with crispy prosciutto and espresso americanos. The Espresso is rich & delicious. The açaí bowl was the best I have ever had… including homemade nut butter, granola, and a variety of fresh fruit. My husbands eggs were farm fresh and cooked perfectly with crispy prosciutto and fruit. Everything here is made from scratch and you can taste the love! They offer gluten free and vegan options as well. Wonderful cozy outdoor atmosphere with propane heaters. And then there’s the service..fast, friendly smiling faces, just awesome. AND very reasonable prices to boot. Can’t say enough about this amazing kafe. It’s an absolute must when in SD and WAY worth the time to visit. Had to write a review about a worker.

When one of the staff (I assume she is the owner? 50s with space buns?) brought out food, we thought she was asking if the next table or us got the food. So my bf commented kindly and politely, “ oh sorry that’s ours I think”.

The woman put the food on the next table “ no, it’s theirs”, turned to my bf, condescendingly said, “I WORK HERE” and rudely pointed at the numbers “YOU ARE 11, THEY ARE 9.”

Of course we confronted her and said the last comment was uncalled for and there was no reason to be rude.

She interpreted an innocent comment as a criticism of her work and felt the need to “stand up” for herself. We kindly suggest that she can work on her insecurity and defensiveness. Must be miserable to live on unresolved traumas, especially in the hospitality industry - thinking everything is a personal attack.

All other staff members are nice and awesome though....

Wow! Work of art on a plate! Just had the Breakfast Plate with a coffee and a from- scratch made gooseberry muffin. Tasted the experience, knowledge and love in every bite. Everything cooked and plated to perfection! A beautiful balance of food on a plate. Love the atmosphere with the perfect soft background music and comfortable seating. Also love the layout of the kitchen area with glass partitions so you can see how clean and organized this cafe really is. Such a clean and comfortable space to enjoy your meal or drinks at the counter or tables. The aroma of the coffee bar and food was amazing. Great courteous, friendly and smiling staff where you know they love what they do. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal experience here and look forward to experiencing other menu items for sure! Cream...
