Bahn Thai was closing in 8 minutes. I called in an order. I live 6 minutes away. I would have made it in time had I ordered from the right location. The owner was going to go to the other location to pick up the meal to bring it to me. And on top of this, the other restaurant stayed open until I arrived, 3 minutes past closing. If for nothing else...5 🌟
My first time here. The chili sauce is so good I bought a jar and couldn't wait to try it on pizza. And it is freakin' tongue tantalizing. Also a hit on avocado toast.
Yes, I did actually purchase two dishes- vegan Pad Thai with tofu and drunken noodles with beef. The drunken noodles were tasty but sober (dry). I've had more inebriated noodles. The beef was tender enough and I have braces. The Pad Thai was perfectly prepared and seasoned. The tofu was crisp on the outside with seasoning and soft on the inside. Each dish could comfortably feed 2.25 people.
There are other dishes, flavors and spices created here that may be uncommon or not existent in other Thai eateries but highly recommended. Fifth Avenue location is stunningly inviting and open.
Parking is street metered and free 8 pm or later. Yes, 8 not 6 pm. Four spots in front of the restaurant (2 handicapped) (2 pick up orders).
I would suggest this place to...
Read moreWhich cuisine can be closure to the Indian food? Well, I know everyone's mind reacts as Thai. When my friend searched and explored the cuisine to try for lunch and when Thai cuisine was asked for, we all nodded yes as most of them are hangry and wanted to satiate the hunger. As we were in front of this Thai Restuarant called Banh Thai, the exterior gave an impression of oh wow, this looks beautiful. But once you are inside, you can't stop admiring the contemporary look with Thai style arts and crafts. Like every other Thai, the menu doesn't look different. But, the presentation and taste of all the items we ordered pleased us. The star attraction will be the specialty dish called Choo Chee Fish Curry. This fish fillet in the red curry sauce (which has the flavors of Panang curry) is a sure try here. My favorite in Thai, Dunken noodles has all the blend of vegetables and noodles with icing on the cake egg. Spring rolls are good with the right proportions of mushrooms, carrots, and noodles. As soon as you dip the spring roll in plum sauce and have a bite of it, the crunchy effect and taste take you somewhere. The green curry with chicken was just good. Usually, Thai fried rice was...
Read moreThis is the first time we visited this area in San Diego on our second trip to San Diego. We first went to their location at University ave but they had a long waiting period as they had very little dine out place. They suggested we go their newer location and we loved the location. They have nice seating area in front and back. We ordered a variety of dishes ,they all tasted different and good. The food tasted different , nice and fresh than other places we have tried. We ordered their vegan sweet and spicy yellow curry tofu , drunken noodles ,tom yum chicken soup and the fire cracker chicken. Most of the dishes were a little spicy but tasted good. The portion sizes are good too. They packed all the food in To Go boxes and gave us at table which was good as we could easily carry the leftovers home..This is a very favorite place ,a lot of people did pick up order up till the closing time. They had a super busy kitchen and everything was streamlined well.I would definitely recommend...
