This place has solid pizza, and you should know that. I would highly advise against ordering delivery through an app though, as it was the most frustrating delivery experience of my life.
Around 10:30 PM, we were hungry and my wife and I decided we wanted pizza. We choose Tony’s because of the fast delivery time on DoorDash (23 minutes) and the proximity to us. (8 blocks away) I didn’t hear anything for an hour, they hadn’t even confirmed our order on DoorDash. When I called, I felt brushed off. I was told they had received my order, but didn’t know anything about when it would even be made. When I asked about cancelling since it was taking so long, I was told I had to do so through the app. The app won’t let you do anything until the order is completed so I accepted that I just had to wait out, and the delivery window kept getting pushed farther and farther out. They finally confirmed the order around midnight and it kept saying they were 5-8 minutes out. Around 1 AM, I’m getting tired and call, but only get a busy signal, twice. At 1:15 AM, Tony’s marked the order as completed. I checked the lobby and nothing was there. Tired and frustrated, I let DoorDash know I didn’t receive my order and decided to go to sleep. At 1:38 AM I get a phone call asking if I can meet in the lobby for my pizza. So I get out of bed and go get it. The delivery guy was nice and the pizza was warm but wow…
I get that they’re getting lots of different orders and it’s a Saturday night in SD but man that was rough. Maybe figure out a smoother...
Read moreI was walking down the street in the Gaslamp district and saw this really cool sign for Tony's Pizza that reminded me of classic Italian places on the East Coast where I'm from.
I was greeted by a really nice and professional man at the counter who turned out to be the Owner, Brent(points for that because of all the chains now with employees that don't care about their business and absentee owners who are just about their "investment" or tax write off).
I was really hungry and had the Pizza large supreme and Stromboli. The cheese, crust were amazing and the tangy, super flavorful sauce was phenomenal. I am not a big eater but basically devoured the huge pizza in a short time because it was so good and I was so hungry.
The stromboli and zucchini sticks were also outstanding and large portions. They even had my favorite blue powerade from the drink machine.
They deliver and do takeout and are very busy on the weekends as word gets out about the great pizza.
I think Tony's is the best pizza restaurant in downtown san diego.

Read morePlaced an order through postmates at 9:48pm. Wait time for delivery was 80-90 minutes. I received a call from the postmates delivery person at 11:13pm letting me know that he had been informed by Tony’s that the pizza had been sold. I guess the interpretation is that they had made my pizza and then sold it to someone else? The delivery person asked how long it would take to make a new pizza and he was informed that it would be 30 minutes “if he was lucky.” He let me know the restaurant asked for him to let me know and request that I cancel the order. Very disappointing to have waited almost an hour and a half to be informed that no food would be delivered and very unprofessional to not attempt to make the situation right, nor submit the cancellation on their end, potentially exposing me to cancellation fees. Will not be ordering from this establishment again.
Based on another review from another person who ordered delivery, this restaurant has poor customer service around...
