Just hit up New York Giant Pizza in Mira Mesa, and I gotta say, it really hit the spot! As someone who’s been spoiled by authentic New York pizza, I wasn’t expecting much—but man, was I wrong.
Pizza: The slices here are massive, and I mean massive. The crust is that perfect mix of crispy and chewy, just like you’d want from a good New York slice. I grabbed a classic pepperoni and one of their specialty slices, and both were on point. The sauce is tangy without being too much, and they didn’t skimp on the toppings either.
Service: The folks behind the counter were super chill and got my order out pretty fast, even though the place was buzzing. You can tell they’ve got a lot of regulars who know where to get their pizza fix.
Vibe: It’s your typical pizza joint—nothing fancy, just some tables if you want to chill there, but it’s also perfect for grabbing a slice to go. It’s got that no-nonsense, down-to-earth feel that just works when you’re craving pizza.
Value: For the size and quality of the slices, the prices are totally fair. You’re definitely getting your money’s worth, and you won’t leave hungry, that’s for sure.
Overall: If you’re in Mira Mesa and need a serious pizza fix, New York Giant Pizza is where it’s at. It’s not exactly like being in NYC, but it’s pretty darn close...
Read moreThis pizza place has been around for many years and have served the neighborhood with a pizza that is different from the others. They specialize is the 28 inch pizza which is pretty big when you consider most places call their large pizza a 12 or 14 inch pizza. This is a take away place but does have a few tables where you can sit and eat. It is not meant to be be a fancy place and the tables and chairs are not the most comfortable. Often during the summer you will find high school students from the neighborhood hanging out. Since they are one of the few places that have pizza by the slice and a variety of toppings that are not normally available at all other pizza places they are quite popular. What makes their pizza stand out is the thin crust pizza which are not greasy like some other places. Just to clarify it is the crust that is not greasy. Many at the park birthday parties and office parties tend to get the 28 inch pizza from here. Most people have not seen such a large pizza and usually like the thin crust as it is not as filling as a pan pizza. It is a family run business and they do take pride in their pizza. They do sell other stuff like lasagna gyro's and wings and even a...
Read moreI ordered their margherita pizza. It was carry-out over the phone. Ordering was super fast, and they didn't try to upsell me on drinks or extras. 10 minutes later and I was able to pick up my pizza.
The crust was baked perfectly. Not overly done to almost burnt and bone dry like a lot of more popular pizza joints. The ingredients were fresh, and the toppings were evenly distributed and even a bit artistically placed. They're minor things, but it helps with taste when each bite has a good mix of flavors.
The leftovers re-heated well, too. The cheese still came out stretchy and nicely melted. Unlike re-heating pizza from other places, where the cheese turns into thick blobs.
The one thing I wish they had were more topping choices. But maintaining more ingredients probably means they would be less fresh and lower quality. So I prefer their quality over quantity approach.
Great pizza overall. This is my new favorite local...
