Robert’s Jalapeños — Restaurant in San Diego

The food at Rob's Jalapeños is really good. Good enough we drive to Carmel Mountain from Mira Mesa pretty frequently. I've ordered the enchiladas, bean and cheese burrito wet, veggie burrito and the chimichangas. All excellent! Their salsa is outstanding and they give you chips with your order. Service is generally quick and friendly.

So I know you're asking why only 4 stars? This relates to my most recent visit only. We both decided we wanted veggie burritos chimichanga style. Well since lettuce and deep fryers aren't good friends we ordered them without lettuce and asked that they both be made wet (enchilada sauce on top). When the young lady rung it up I noticed she put "no mole" instead of no lettuce so I corrected her and said we wanted them with no lettuce and that we definitely wanted the mole! She smiled and corrected the order and we paid.

When they called our number my dining companion went up to get the order and noticed they weren't wet. He told the gentleman behind the counter we had ordered it wet and the gentleman replied that costs extra and we hadn't paid for it to be made that way. To which my companion said I understand that but we had asked it to be made that way and it isn't. He replied and said he'd remake it this time but next time he'd have to charge us.

We weren't trying to rip them off and we're good customers. The young lady clearly didn't input the order correctly. Had he simply said I'm sorry and offered to add the charge we wouldn't have argued. Instead he insinuated 3 times we were trying to get something for nothing. Very poor...

This place is a definite must visit if you're in the mood for good Mexican food. This location was introduced to me by a coworker back in 2012 when I worked in Poway. I was recently in the area(kind of) and decided I'd stop by. The place used to be very small but they moved just two doors down to a much more spacious location. The food is still top tier. The portions are generous and they utilize excellent, top quality meats. All meats were seasoned deliciously and cooked to perfection. I had the carne asada fries(I like to add refried beans) and a chicken flauta combination plate(It comes with olives but I ask for no olives). I definitely recommend you try both! The place is kept clean and the employees are constantly checking to ensure any messes or spills are immediately addressed(we all know how salsa bars get). There is also outdoor seating if prefer to be in the fresh air! If you like to have a beer with dinner or lunch, they have beer on tap! I'm looking forward to...

UPDATE 2023: I wanted to love it, but husband & I both became really ill after eating here. We know it was Rob's because it is the only food we had in common before we both got sick. Also, when I was ordering, 3 of the staff started talking about me right in front of my face. They assumed I didn't speak Spanish. Very insensitive. We will NOT be back and no longer recommend.

Original Review in 2022: Clean restaurant, friendly staff, and their food is the bomb!!😍 We will absolutely be back. The cooks actually take care in making the food, too. We ordered the veggie burrito --DELICIOUS-- and chips and their red salsa. I do wish the red salsa was a bit thicker so that it would stay on the chips. But, that being said, the red salsa is amazing! Just the right mix of flavors. Can't wait to come back and try...
