The food is pretty okay in flavor and the older man who served us, who I assume is Al, was very friendly but there are many downsides to this small restaurant. The kitchen and dining areas are very run-down and dirty. Both the cook and older man were handling food without gloves on and didn't wash their hands for the entire hour that we were dining in. He was touching various dirty surfaces, handling pens, money, note paper and his credit card machine and not once did he wash his hands... Not to mention the cookware was not once washed between dishes ordered by other customers. Al (the older man) also talked to his cook in a demeaning and degrading way. He doesnt let the man breathe one bit. Another negative was that they do not wear hairnets when handling your food. My family member was about to take a bite of his eggs when he noticed a hair in them. At the finally of our visit, the older man asked what percentage tip we wanted to leave as if it were mandatory, suggesting 15 or 20 percent. I settled on leaving a 10 percent tip which he gave me a kind of...
Read moreUpdate: we went for mother's day brunch and found the restaurant had only 25 customers out of 60 seats, with a full staff of 4, and a relatively quiet kitchen. We figured service would be somewhat fast, but we were wrong. We ordered by 11:30 but weren't served until after 12:10. They didn't give us any warning and the briefest of apologies. Other tables were waiting even longer periods of time. I can't recommend Al's if you go during any busy hour, or if you order anything besides their top 5 menu items.
Previous review: I went with my friends for weekday brunch and we were impressed. Food was quickly prepared and perfectly done. Prices were astoundingly affordable, about $11 per plate. My scramble had a very generous serving of meat alongside the perfect hash browns and some buttery toast. Meanwhile, the fruit waffles looked and tasted amazing! I recommend going when you want a good...
Read moreStraight up old school Mission Cafe style restaurant. Sat at the long bar table because he had no table person to wait on us. It was cool, I dont remember the last time I sat the long bar to eat. There where literally only two workers, the cook and his assistant. The food was hella basic, I had chicken fried steak with eggs and hashbrowns. The gravy on the steak was a bit on the salty side. The steak was ehh and and the hash brown I noticed where sliced up potatoes vs being your regular shredded looking hash browns. The toast was very small too and The coffee also was very bland, nothing special. I would think the meal would be maybe $8 was I was surprised it to be upwards of $10-12 pp. I dont think I'll be going back to Al's, for a dollar or two more I can probably enjoy a better quality food around...
